Habelt,
You were always a honorable man who's presence demanded respect. I never thought that this could happen to you. I wouldnt be where I am at today had it not been for your little constructive lectures when I entered law enforcement. You have left your mark on many in this county and will always be remembered. Rest in peace.

Dear Family, Friends and Co-Workers of Deputy Habelt,

As a survivor, each EOW notice hurts no matter who it is or where they are from. You still feel the same pain and emptiness. We are so sorry for your loss and your family will be in our prayers through this difficult time of your fresh grief. May you find a small measure of comfort in knowing there are many people who care.

To all who knew DS Habelt I write these words with a heavy heart, just like I did to the other DS who lost his life with you, by someone who didn't give any value to the life of another person. What has happened to society today. Have we all lost our minds, our values? These two Deputies went into a situation without any type of knowledge that they would not go home to their families or loved ones after their shift. We will shed many tears and our hearts go out to all who have lost HEROES."
"A Part Of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL
When will all this senseless killing stop.
We honor all of our fallen HEROES

Heartfelt condolences go out to the families of both of these officers. I am the nurse for the City of Ocala and as such am closely entwined with our police officers. I know how I feel about them and would mourn the loss of one of ours. Know that prayers and thoughts from law enforcement agencies from everywhere are with you and yours. May God bless you and keep you in the comfort of His heart!

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Habelt, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

"Friends in Blue"

We have worked together for many years,
It's our voices ringing in your ears.
We try to make those long days brighter,
And hopefully, the load a little lighter.

We send you to the bar-room brawl.
And out in the rain to the nuisance call.
We worry about you day and night.
To make sure every call turns out all right.

We share your sorrows, we share your joys,
That's why we think of you as ... "Our boys."
Then why have we never said to you,
"I'm proud of you ... my friend in blue."
