Deputy Habelt;
The footprints you left upon this earth cannot be filled, but the path that you followed is traveled by many men and women in the police, fire, and emergency medical services. We can only pray that we are able to live up to the standards by which you lived and ultimately died. May your spirit, and ours, find comfort in the memory you leave behind.

To the family of Deputy Paul Habelt:
I am so sorry for the grief you are feeling right now because of the senseless killing of your loved one. It's silly to say "I know what you are going through," because we don't know unless we have experienced something terrible like this. But my daughter was a police officer and my brother works in the law inforcement field, and my sister-in-law's father was killed on Texas highways when he pulled a car over on a routine traffic violation. So I know about the danger these officers face every day. They are very brave because they know something like this could happen any time on any day. Yet they continue to do the job they feel they are called to do.
Your family has made a tremendous sacrifice. I want you to know I appreciate what Deputy Habelt did for the people of Henderson County every day he went to work. I think you will see how much he was appreciated at his memorial service.
I hope this scripture will help you get through the bad times ahead:
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help...." Psalm 46:1

As a brother of the badge I know the sacrifices that we must face. We all are willing to pay the ultimate price but few of us must pass that crossing. May God bless your family and keep His angels around them. You will always be a hero and protector of Henderson County and its citizens.

I will always rember Paul as Sqt. Habelt who always seemed to be in the jail when I brought in a prisoner. I had lunch in the same room with him just hours before he died. It was such a sad day. Paul was very respected by his fellow officers. Paul and Tony will be missed. We as a brotherhood will go on in memory of them. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and officers of Henderson County.

Brothers may you rest in the arms of God and may our heavenly father hold your family close. Some may call that property "the place where two officers died" but I call it the place where God called two more angels home for to be absent in this body is to be with God.

With each falling officers, I am reminded of the bravery each officer makes on behalf of the community he serves and protects. I often woundered if citizens really know what it takes to be a police officers and the many sacrifices they make, as well as, the sacrifices of their familes. No greater sacrifice; no greater honor than to give ones life. My God bring comfort and peace to the Habelt family in knowing that weaping my in doer for a night, but joy comes in the morning. ALL MY BEST
