Reflections for Corporal N. Bruce McKay, III

Bruce, On Sunday October 18, 2009 me and several other officers ran in the 5K Foot Race for the Fallen in Manchester in honor and remberance of you and the other fallen officers from New Hampshire. It felt like you were right there with us that day brother. We wore 44K proudly on our chests. I miss you a lot Bruce. You were always such a great friend and I remember the last chance we had to talk like it was just yesterday. Rest in peace. You will never be forgotten! --A friend and fellow officer--

Most memories along the trail,
Are treasures you'll want to keep;
The things that make you content,
They're all there for you to reap.

Do not linger on the bad times,
But dwell on every sweet thing;
That fills your soul with happiness,
Pleasant memories they will bring.

I often log onto the odmp to read of and pray for fallen US and Canadian brothers and sisters.
I remember reading of this fine officers death and, upon some basic internet research was astounded to read of some back ground between the officer and the piece of filth that took his life. (And of the brave passer-by and his son who stepped up to help - God Bless you Sir).
I also remember being too upset to post a reflection on this site, fearing any words I wrote would be just not worthy.
Just tonight I was reading an article on another leo site and stumbled across more information on the evening of this tragedy. To see something that we all do every day - as police officers, troopers, marshals, Constables - just go so bad so quickly is just gut wrenching. Only in May this year after a short pursuit I was bashed unconscious by a drunk driver who turned out to be the husband of my little girls former teacher.
At any time, any where, in any part of the world the brave men and women of law enforcement who go about their daily tasks do so with the ever present fear of not returning to our loved ones.
In the case of Officer McKay this was just the case.
My most heart felt condolences go out to the family, friends and fellow officers of this true Hero.
May the Lord bless, keep and watch over you all.
You will NEVER be forgotten Sir.
Sincerely.

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on…
Cherished memories never fade
Because one loved is gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart…
For as long as there is memory,
They live on in our hearts.

B - You're always on my mind and in my heart,
Sharon

You always listen to my calls, I love that! I asked for a REALLY BIG and obvious sign from you one morning recently and that very same day I got it. As I was driving through Franconia Notch Parkway by Echo Lake a GIGANTIC male moose was standing right there on the side of the road, stopped eating as I slowly drove by, and lifted his head to look right at me with such intent that I knew he was your sign. I have not seen a moose since you and I saw one back in 1995 on our motorcycle trip to Quebec! It was so great I laughed out loud for another mile. Thanks for thinking of me, I needed it.

Love you and miss you terribly.

Officer McKay,
I've seen the video and the news program about your death. It is sad that you were taken from the world so soon before you had a chance to comb grey hair.
Thank you for all that you did to protect the citizens of Franconia.
Watch over all of us brothers and sisters as we try to go about making this world a little better of a place to live in.

Gone Too Soon

Like A Comet
Blazing 'Cross The Evening Sky
Gone Too Soon

Like A Rainbow
Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye
Gone Too Soon

Shiny And Sparkly
And Splendidly Bright
Here One Day
Gone One Night

Like The Loss Of Sunlight
On A Cloudy Afternoon
Gone Too Soon

Like A Castle
Built Upon A Sandy Beach
Gone Too Soon

Like A Perfect Flower
That Is Just Beyond Your Reach
Gone Too Soon

Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight
Here One Day
Gone One Night

Like A Sunset
Dying With The Rising Of The Moon
Gone Too Soon

There never is a moment we do not think of you
Our special times together
The loving things that you would do.
How well we do remember
The day God called you home
You slipped into his loving arms and we felt so all alone
And someday up in heaven, again your face we'll see
When we meet upon that golden shore
Where the best is yet to be.

Just saw the video of the POS that killed you. May you rest in eternal peace as you patrol heaven's streets. I am very glad to read that the Marine passing by stopped to help. You will never be forgotten...

A THREAD OF BLUE

As flowers fade
With ribbons frayed
And tears of sorrow cease

That haunting sound
“Officer Down”
Will never find its Peace

The list of Grief
And Disbelief
Are echoes of the past

The time we spent
And what it meant
Are mem’ries that will last

We Live and Die
And don’t know why
But what we leave behind

A Thread of Blue
A Job to Do
And Duty Undefined

The Honor Goes
To All of Those
Who Dared to Take a Stand

And all along
you keep us strong
With God’s Great Helping Hand.

Where have you gone since yesterday
and left us lonely here ?
Today you seem so far away
when yesterday you were near.
No maps of ours that we use
your journey can we trace.
We only know you've reached your home
and see the Fathers face.

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again.

Your spirit lives within me, Bruce...

Unseen, unheard, but always near,
So loved, so missed, so very dear.

Babboo,
it was SO wonderful to talk to you through the Medium last week. She shared things about you that she could not possibly have known if it was not really you and Aunt Agnes and Grandpa communicating through her to me. I am so impacted by that reading and I feel SO MUCH BETTER now knowing you are fine, and that you are content and have your sense of humor back again. I am working hard to improve my outlook now that we have spoken. Thanks for reaching out to me, I needed it desperately.
