We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Gama and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Gama has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family and friends of Deputy Gama, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Gama is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

RIP Brother
Cops Prayer Poem
THE OFFICER STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD,
WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS.
HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINNING,
JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS.
"STEP FORWARD NOW OFFICER,
HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU?
HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK?
TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"
THE OFFICER SQUARED HIS SHOULDERS AND SAID,
"NO LORD, I GUESS I AINT,
BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO CARRY BADGES
CAN'T ALWAYS BE A SAINT.
I'VE HAD TO WORK MOST SUNDAYS,
AND AT TIMES MY TALK WAS ROUGH,
AND SOMETIMES I'VE BEEN VIOLENT
BECAUSE THE STREETS ARE TOUGH.
BUT I NEVER TOOK A PENNY
THAT WASN'T MINE TO KEEP.
THOUGH I WORKED A LOT OF OVERTIME,
WHEN THE BILLS GOT TO STEEP.
AND I NEVER PASSED A CRY FOR HELP
THOUGH AT TIMES I SHOOK WITH FEAR.
AND SOMETIMES, GOD FORGIVE ME,
I'VE WEPT AN UNMANLY TEAR.
I KNOW I DON'T DESERVE A PLACE
AMONG THE PEOPLE HERE.
THEY NEVER WANTED ME AROUND
EXCEPT TO CALM THEIR FEAR.
IF YOU'VE A PLACE FOR ME HERE, LORD,
IT NEEDN'T BE SO GRAND.
I NEVER EXPECTED OR HAD TOO MUCH,
BUT IF YOU DON'T I'LL UNDERSTAND.
THERE WAS SILENCE ALL AROUND THE THRONE,
WHERE THE SAINTS OFTEN TROD.
AS THE OFFICER WAITED SILENTLY
FOR THE JUDGEMENT OF HIS GOD.
"STEP FORWARD NOW, OFFICER.
YOU'VE BORNE YOUR BURDENS WELL.
COME WALK A BEAT ON HEAVEN'S STREETS,
YOU'VE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL."

Why is it that a knife or gun, resulting in death, is called "murder" while drunk driving resulting in death,is merely "manslaughter"? Rest In Peace, Deputy Gama, and please know, there are those of us who still uphold the law, while questioning some of the logic protecting those who violate those laws. To the family of Deputy Gama, don't grieve for a life lost, but revel and celebrate the fact that you had the opportunity (one not afforded to many) to live among a Hero.

To the deputies and personnel of the LASD and the Gama family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you in the loss of Deputy Raul Gama. This is another senseless death of officer in the line of duty. I had the pleasure of knowing Deputy Gama. He use to come out on ride-a-longs at Pico Station when he was still in the jails. I got to really know him while was a trainee and again as a detective. He was always a positive individual and a pleasure to be around. I will always carry some great memories of Raul.
Rest in peace Gama, we have the watch from here.
