Reflections for Trooper David Brinkerhoff

Sadly another member of New York State's best has been taken from us far too soon. Something that has been occurring with alarming frequency. May you rest in peace and may your widow and young child find the strength to go on.

My deepest sympathy to all of your loved ones during this very trying time. I know the pain all of you will face in the coming months. I ask that all of David's close friends and brothers and sisters in blue stay close to all of his loved ones, including his parents as parents are usually the forgotten ones. As a former police officer close in age to Trooper Brinkerhoff and new father with a daughter close in age to his, it breaks my heart to read this (and every) post on the ODMP. I am so very sorry for the loss and grief that his family will go through because of such a depraved act. We are in dark times but I still hold out hope because of the bravery and selfless courage of people like this who continue to put society, law and virtue above self, disorder and vice. God bless you David, and God bless your family.

"A Part of America Died"

Somebody killed a policeman today
and apart of America died,
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side,
the suspect that shot him will stand up in court
with counsel demanding his rights,
while a young widowed mother must work
for her kids and spend many lonely night
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war,
Though the flag of our nation wont fly half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star,
Yes, somebody killed a Policeman today,
in your home town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line,
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street
and he stands at each new rookies side,
He answered the call,of himself gave his all,
And a Part of America Died.
To all that knew Trooper Brinkerhoff, we send our deepest sympathies and all of our prayers. Words are not enough to help everyone who knew him, to deal with this tragedy. Hopefully down the road you can all come here to this memorial and read all the reflections left here to send remorse and heart warmed thoughts. Right now nothing can take away the pain, the hurt and the sadness all of you have to face in the near future.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
