To David's Wife and Family,
My heart, my thoughts, and my prayers go out to you. I know there are no words I can offer to help ease the pain of what you are going through. Take comfort in family, in all the wonderful memories, and in God. There is a long road ahead of you, but you will find you have more strength than you ever knew you had. Especially for the little child you had together.
May Gods comfort rest on you.

To the Brinkerhoff Family and the extended family at the New York State Police,
I wanted to express my heart felt sympothies for your loss. For when we loss a fellow brother in Law Enforcement, the loss is felt world wide.
We have suffered such a loss here at my department. We had a Lieutenant struck and killed by a drunk driver. I cannot express to you in words how the loss, the sorrow and the emptiness feels. But what I can tell you is all of those things gets easier with time. That is not to say that they are frgotten, for we shall never forget but rather it is just that those feelings are replaced with feelings of fond memories.
This was left on the hood of our Lieutenant's patrol vehicle after he was killed.
......And when we lay down our nightsticks, Enroll us in your Heavenly force, Where we will be as proud to Guard the Throne of God as we have been to guard the city of man!
Rest in Peace Trooper Brinkerhoff, We'll take it from here.

My eyes are blurred and my body’s cold; it’s hard to even write after reading about the tragic loss of Trooper Brinkerhoff. You have sacrificed your life to protect us all and we will be eternally grateful for that. Understand that hearts like mine are broken across the United States as we mourn your untimely passing into eternal life. You will be in the thoughts and prayers of my family, my department, and my loved ones.
To your family,
Words are not enough. No one deserves the pain of losing a loved one - especially like this. It is people like David that inspire officers like myself to continue to wear the uniform and try to make a difference in this unfair world we live. May your daughter remember you as the hero that you will always be in the hearts of all law enforcement.
“Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Respectfully submitted on behalf of my department,
