Reflections for Trooper David Brinkerhoff

To the family, friends and co-wokers of Trooper Brinkerhoff I wish peace and comfort. Know that you are in the hearts, minds and prayers as you begin this most difficult journey. It will be difficult for everyone at first, but God will grant you the means to continue with the love and care you share with each other.

Rest well, warrior, your job here is done. Your brothers and sisters will continue on in your stead.

Thank you for a job well done.

You make us proud to be in the long grey line. You ran to the danger to maintain the security and peace for all of us. We cannot thank your wife and daughter enough for the sacrifce they have now made to the people of our state. Your death has brought us great sadness and will make us all stronger in our pursuit of civility. Rest in peace and know your family is in good hands.

To the family, friends and fellow officers - What a tragedy to have lost any officer. Our department had a loss this week (as a result of an accident involving another police officer as well) and we too are grieving. Your son, your husband, your dad, your fellow officer... he will never be forgotten. Know that you are in our prayers.

R.I.P. Know that your brothers and sisters in blue have it from here.

My fellow 180th classmate and "A" Session member, You will be missed my friend, words cant convey the feelings. I just saw you a couple of weeks ago with your beautiful little girl at the fund raiser for our fellow fallen classmate and MRT member Joe Longobardo, I cant believe this has happened. You are in a better place now Dave and rest easy you will not be forgotten. If you can give joe a hug from us down here ok, you two take care of each other. Be well my friend see you on the other side.

Dec. 6, 2000, one of my best friends, Trooper Eric Nicholson, SCSP,left to prepare a place for us at the table in the great Hall God has reserved for Cops. We will all see you again. Until then, be the angel our shoulders. This poem meant so much to me, may your family find the same comfort in it. Rest in Peace Brother. ESU will always be there for MRT.

The policeman stood and faced his God
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as neatly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said
No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us that carry badges
Can't always be a Saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my walk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the street are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook in fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among these people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't… I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne
Where the Saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the Judgement of his God.

"Step forward now policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
