It was a pleasure and an honor to have worked with you on the midnight shift when you first came on the department, and to have known you. After I went too days, you always went out of your way to say "hi" to me when we would pass each other at 7-11 on Miami St. May you rest in peace, my friend...

I went to sleep praying for Scott, his family and friends on the one year anniversary of his death. When I got up this morning to listen to the news of the memorial gathering, I couldn't believe I was hearing that another of our boys in blue was struck down during the night.
I am so sorry for all of the citizens of our community, the friends, family, members of the South Bend Police Department...everyone who knew or red for Nick.
Nick is our latest fallen hero, killed while protecting our community. I am so sorry that this has happened yet again in our fair community and my heart goes out to all who loved, respected and will miss Nick. By the grace of God his partner will survive to carry on.
You will be missed!

Nick, it seems like yesterday you got on the department. I can't believe the time has come again to bury one of our own. I stopped at the cemetery to visit Scott Sunday and thought how pretty and peaceful it was there. I remembered how warm and comforting the sun was when they burried Scott. I thought the same thing today as I was driving. I saw the clear blue skies, the birds flying, and the trees flowering. Times like this make such things so very important. Nick, I have no doubt in my heart that you are in a much better place than any of us. I am sure you were met by Tom, Paul, Brian, Tom and Scott when you reached Heaven. As you are not alone in Heaven, rest in peace knowing your family here on earth will come together and be strong for everyone. Save a space for us, we will be there some day. God's speed, Nick.
