I was very sad when I found out that another police officer was shot and killed. I did not know Corporal Polizzotto but I am sure he was a great officer and loved his job and the South Bend community. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace and walk the beat of Heaven!

Nick,

My heart broke when my wife called me to relay the news to me. You were one of the finest officers I had the pleasure to work with, one of the rare folks who never forgot about Dispatch. My wife also had the pleasure of meeting you on a couple of late-night occasions when our drunk, but well-meaning neighbor pounded on our door instead of his next door...your professionalism was always one of your hallmarks. You will be missed.

OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF CORPORAL POLIZZOTTO. HIS SACRIFICE REPRESENTS HIS DEDECATION TOWARD THE PROTECTION OF HIS COMMUNITY. IT IS INDEED A BITTER FACT THAT SUCH DEDECATION SOMETIMES BEARS SUCH A HIGH COST. IT IS MY HOPE THAT IN YOUR GRIEF YOU MAY FIND SOME RELIEF IN THE SOLEM PRIDE THAT IS YOURS ALONE FROM HAVING KNOWN SUCH A GREAT OFFICER.
SINCERELY,

There is a song on the radio with the line, I am out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight. Everytime I hear that line, I think of those I know and have come to really admire in law enforcement. I did not know you, but I thank you and those like you who do a job many of us don't want or can't do. Thank you and God Speed Blue Angel.

I know a couple other South Bend Police Officers. When hearing the bad news about an officer passing on my heart sunk. I was hoping it was not one that I knew but my condolences go out to the ENTIRE POLICE OFFICER FORCE and THEIR FAMILIES. I put flowers out on the car even though I did not know Polizzotto personally. I just cried. It is so sad to have to lose someone over something so dumb, A GUN.

After all of this it makes you stop and think about what you have and realize you need to stay close to those you have and say "I love you" to them everyday, becasue you never know after they walk away from you may never see them again:(

Nick~

You know I never thought we would be burying another brother so soon. The reality of it is that we all knew that we would go to another funeral for one of our own again, it was just a matter of when and who. But not this soon and not you.....
The many breakfast's at Steak and Shake..... your chicken soup that had more pepper in it than chicken. You were my primary FTO, you were with me for my first foot chase, and you were always there to get into trouble with me and Houser. 202 Dayton??? How could Houser and I forget? Remember the vehicle pursuit going way too fast the wrong way down Michigan? We had fun tearing up the SE side. Sitting next to you in roll call listening to you and Brick discuss poker and blackjack.
I remember the night Noonan got shot and we all went to Aaron's house after the shift. I can honestly say that I was never afraid to be on a call with you... no matter how tense things got, I knew you had my back.
I remember your birthday is October 19th .... three days before mine. I gave you that Spiderman bobble head for your car for your birthday. So hard to believe that you are gone. Tell Sev I said hi, and if you happen to run into my dad up there tell I love him and miss him more and more everyday.
Rest easy Nick, the hardest part is over. We miss you and always will. Your death was not in vain. We will carry on the fight. We'll see that big smile again one day soon.

Cop on |the Take

|First he takes |the oath.

|Now look at |all he takes.

|He takes it in |stride when |people call |him pig.

|He takes time |to stop and |talk to |children.

|He takes your |verbal abuse |while giving |you a ticket |you really |deserved.

|He takes on |creeps you |would be |afraid to even |look at.

|He takes time |away from his |family to keep |you safe.

|He takes your |injured child |to the |hospital.

|He takes the |graveyard |shift without |complaint |because it's |his turn.

|He takes his |life into his |hands daily.

|He takes you |home when |your car |breaks down.

|He takes time |to explain |why both |your |headlights |have to work.

|He takes the |job no one |else wants--|telling you a |loved one has |died.

|He takes |criminals to |jail.

|He takes in |sights that |would make |you cry.

|Sometimes he |cries too, but |he takes it |anyway |because |someone has |to.

|If he is lucky, |he takes |retirement.

|He takes |memories to |bed each |night that |you couldn't |bear for |even one |day.

|Sometimes, |he takes a |bullet.

|And yes, |occasionally |he may take a |free cup of |coffee.

|Then one day |he pays for all |he has taken, |and God takes |him.

|Please |remember |that the "He" |in all this |represents |all police |officers, both |men and |women who |have served |and are |serving our |cities and |their citizens |we have all |sworn to |protect.

|Blessed are |the peace |keepers!

Being a part of the extended SBPD family, this is one of those days that we all hope we will never have to face again. Another senseless act that took the life of such a brave man. Someone who faced danger, when others would have turned away.
We're crushed that you're no longer with us...you were such a fantastic person, such a wonderful police officer, and a great friend.
Words cannot describe how much you will be missed.
May your family find strength and support, and know that they are always in my thoughts and prayers.

God speed. Cpl. Polizzotto.

To his son:

Your Dad is a great and honorable hero. Time will heal your pain. May you find peace that your loved ones, who pass on before you, in the years to come, will be greated by your father at heavens gate. And one day, many years from now, you will once again see him. Have faith and remember...

"TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST BUT, TOUGH PEOPLE DO."
