I will always remember the times we worked together on midnights. Your laughter and personable style were infectious, and will be missed. I believe the following words say best what I feel.

With Hope - by Steven Curtis Chapman

This is not at all
How we thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
We had so many dreams
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do
Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but ...

We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
There's a place where we'll see your face again

And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan
But through the cloud of tears
I see the Father smile and say well done
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be
Seeing all your dreams come true
'Cause now you're home
And now you're free, and ...

We have this hope as an anchor
'Cause we believe that everything
God promised us is true, so ...

So we can cry with hope
And say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
There's a place by God's grace
There's a place where we'll see your face again
We'll see your face again

We wait with hope
And we ache with hope
We hold on with hope
We let go with hope....

--"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

Aloha Corporal Nick S. Polizzotto,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That sacred light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.

This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.

Corporal Nick S. Polizzotto, God Bless you. You are a hero. As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are Family.” No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace. I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers, peace and love beyond all understanding. I honor you today. You will NEVER be forgotten.

--"Your life is more important than you can imagine."-- Maya Angelou

** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

First of all I would like to thank all the officers who
protect and serve us everyday. Corporal Nick was one of the good guys and it is so hard for everyone to deal with
another senseless tragedy. I live in Mishawaka but work in
South Bend and my heart goes out to all the family, police
families, and the community. We all need to say many prayers and lean on each in this time of need. I turn my blue porch light on each night and prayer that the officers
patrolling my neighborhood go home safe each morning. To his family thank you for giving us such a fine human being
and remember you are in our prayers each and everyday.
My husband's cousin was Tom DeRue another South Bend officer that was taken from his family before his time.
When the parade of lights happens on Friday night I will be out there with my candle lit to pray silently for all
the great men and women who protect us everyday.
May God Bless you all

I woke up early that morning...it was eerily quite and something just felt wrong. Minutes later, we received the call about what had happened. My heart hurts for your family, Nick, and I have no words to express the awfulness of the situation. I pray that you are at peace and that your family takes comfort in the outpouring of support I know they are receiving and will continue to receive. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. I only wish you didn't have to make it.

"A Cop on the Take"

First he takes the oath.
Now look at all he takes -

He takes it in stride when people call him pig.
He takes time to stop and talk to children.
He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserve.
He takes on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.

He takes time away from his family to keep you safe.
He takes your injured children to the hospital.
He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.
He takes his life into his hands daily.

He takes you home when your car breaks down.
He takes time to explain why both you headlights have to work.
He takes the job no one else wants - telling you a loved one has died.
He takes criminals to jail.

He takes in sights that would make you cry.
Sometimes he cries too, but He takes it anyway because someone has to.
If he is lucky, He takes retirement.
He takes memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.

Sometimes, He Takes a bullet.

And, yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.
Then one day he pays for all he has taken,
and God takes him.

I can't believe we are going thru this again... I actually looked in the parkinglot after roll call to see if I would see you walking to your car. At that point I realized this was all to real... I know that you are up there with sev still fight over the guy he arrested in your beat and got to go home early.. I have asked god why so many times.. why would he want to put all of thru the pain again but he needed you up there.. You are one of the bravest people I will ever know. Me and our department will always remember when another one of our brothers went home.. That day will live in all of our hearts forever.. Take care and god speed.. watch over all of us especially your beautifull son of yours.. We Miss you Nick..

I'll always remember some fun that we had while you were with NDSP. It was great seeing you at Marian HS events. You had great character. I am one of the countless people that you affected in a positive way. May you rest in peace as you are with great police officers such as, Sev, Rex Rakow, Lt. Gary Dudley, Chief Gary Martin, and many others now "On Duty" in the mansion of our Lord. Rest in Peace my brother. Know that you and your family will remain in our prayers.
