Jason, I will miss you brother. I remember our talks about aviation but it seems every conversation we had drifted to our faith and our families. I know I'll see you again. One of my favorite quotes that was given to me by a mutual friend describes you in my heart.
'Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.'
—George Orwell
You my friend stood in the gap and protected those who could not protect themselves. We will all miss you and never forget you.

Jason, it seems like only yesterday it was 1996 and you and I were sworn in together at the Sheriff's Office. I got to know you as an officer, but more importantly as a friend. Then we were together again here at the PD. You were a fine officer and one of the best guys I've ever had the pleasure to work with. I never had to worry about my back. You were also a great husband and father. My heart is sad for Chantel and the kids but don't worry they will be taken care of. I will miss you but I will never forget you. Thanks for your service and for always being a good friend.

Patrolling the Streets of Gold

When I passed from this life into the next
I was carried through the gates by the Son of Man.
As I looked at him he wiped away my tears
It was then that I noticed my wounds were healed.

As my eyes turned forward I saw the streets of gold.
He gently placed my feet upon the street.
As I looked down I noticed my shoes were gone;
I stood with bear feet on Heaven's road.

I also noticed that my weapon was now gone;
My bullet proof vest as well as my cuffs are missing.
My badge was replaced by one of Solid Gold.
At first I looked at him in puzzlement.....
Then I knew that I will never have the need
To use the tools of my trade that
I had carried for many years.....
For now I Patrol The Streets Of Gold.

I feel the sorrow and the pain that the family and the co-workers are going through I, myself as a 911-Dispatcher and now the Widow of A Deputy Sheriff. Keep your family close and please reach for help if you need it you will go through many things in the coming months but you do not have to do it alone. COPS Organization will be a great source of strength and support for the entire family. My Husband Started In Law Enforcement in NC in Morehead City, NC and we had only been in TN aprox. 15 months at the time of his death. So even though I didn’t know Jason I feel as if he is part of my extended family. May god be with you through this most difficult time.

Jason,
I'll miss our trips to Lawmen's in Raleigh and all of the other get togethers you used to plan for us on shift back in the day. I'm sorry now that I didn't try harder to make all of them back then. I'll never forget the laughs we had with the other guys playing cards late at night when we were on night rotation and those cakes you used to bake. You were an inspiration as a cop, a father and a husband. Watch our back from up there.

The Final Inspection

The warrior stood and faced God,
Which will always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

“Step forward now, old warrior,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?”

The warrior squared his shoulders and
Said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t,
‘Cause those of us who carry guns
Can’t always be a saint.”

“I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
‘Cause the world is awfully rough.”

“But, I never took a penny
That wasn’t mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.”

“And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.”

“I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.”

“If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand. In life
I didn’t expect nor need too much,
So if you don’t, I’ll understand.”

There was silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod,
As the warrior stood quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

“Step forward now, my warrior,
You’ve born your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in Hell.”
