Reflections for Lieutenant Corey Dahlem
To the family of Lt. Dahlem, and to the Gainesville Police Department I offer my deepest sympathy. Another HERO taken from us but walking with all the HEROES who have gone before him. Rest in Peace.

I'm so sorry for Lt. Dahlem's family. The loss they must be feeling right now. It breaks my heart knowing that one person's stupidity and lack of proper judgment can take someone's life and destroy a family's sense of well being. Every day we hear more and more DUI related deaths and it hurts more knowing that it's claiming more and more of our brothers and sisters in law enforcement. My prayers are with his family now. Please accept my condolences.
RIP Lt. Dahlem, we've got it from here.

The deaths that are reported on these sites continue to shock me. It is probably even more disturbing to hear and read about the continuing devastation caused by drunk drivers. You served with honor and distinction and deserved better than to have your life taken by a senseless act of violence. May your family find some comfort in knowing that you gave your all while doing the job you loved. Rest in peace, brother!

To the Dahlem Family and the GPD Family,
As I heard and read the news about Lt. Dahlem I wanted to share a couple of memories of Lt. Dahlem. Most of you here have been at GPD for a few years and have worked with Lt. Dahlem for a while. I have only been assigned to midnight shift on Lt. Dahlem's rotation for a little over two years, but for those that have not had the pleasure of working with him for very long or not at all, I wanted to share a couple of memories with you. As I am also new to district 3 and have been serving under Lt. Dahlem for less than a year. I remember when I was assigned to district 3, Lt. Dahlem called me into the Lt's office and asked me if I could do him a favor. He said Captain Book was looking for a volunteer to collect all the district 3 stats from Party Patrol and to generate an email to send out to the district folks. He said he told Captain Book, that I would be a good choice and that he would ask me. After explaining what the command staff was looking for I told Lt. Dahlem that I would do the Patry Patrol stats. He thanked me and everytime he would get the weekly emails, he would make it a point to thank me for taking on the task.
Lt. Dahlem was a man who cared about the district, the department as a whole, the people that he worked with and the citizens that we swore to protect and serve.
But from speaking with a few department members this past week, I have learned something else about Lt. Dahlem. He was a devoted husband, and a devoted father to his wife and children.
Lt. Dahlem was also a member of a band that consited of other officers from the department. The band name was The Crown Vix. I was told that Lt. Dahlem could play a mean sax.
I also over heard the LT mention one time that he was an avid mountain bike rider and that he had also completed in the Police Olypics. I also believe that he had even won a metal.
Lt. Dahlem had a good nature about him. He liked to play practical jokes on people and to joke around with people. If you had a department nickname, you could be sure that is what he would call you by. For my department nickname, is Catfish. He shortened it to Fish. I remember making a particular interesting arrest, that had ties to southern Florida,in our district. For a few days later when BOLO's would be announced at briefing, the LT would say to me Fish, swim around your pond, it's not that big and see if you can find them. He would refer to my particular zone as my pond, since my nickname was Catfish.
But what I remember the most about Lt. Dahlem is his closing line at briefing. For those of us that worked on Lt. Dahlem's rotation will know this line, he almost always ended the briefing the same way everytime. He would say, "Its busy out there, let's take a 10-8, be safe out there, and we will see you in the morning."
As I close this note, I would just like to say, Lt. you be safe out there and we will again someday see you in the morning.
Rest in Peace Lt. Dahlem and God Speed.

The joy and happiness shared by Floridians will forever be tarnished by this tragic, criminal act. This is not how the cards should fall for anyone in law enforcement.
Our prayers, thoughts, and heartfelt wishes for peace are extended to the family and colleagues of Lt. Dahlem. We are gracious for his service and will keep him and all his loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of my department,

A part of me died with Corey yesterday. Aside from working with Corey for the past 21 years, I had lunch every week with Corey along with other fellow FSU Seminoles. We went to games together every year and I will truly miss that connection. I pray that God will watch over his family and friends as I know Corey is with him now. Thank you Corey, for your friendship and the memories.

My prayers for LT's family and those who served with him. Most still in shock that we lost a LT, co-worker, friend and brother. It is hard to believe that most will continue to come to briefings, or to your office and not believe you are gone. The pain never goes away when you have lost such an amazing supervisor, officer, and friend. It was a loss that was sensless during a time of celebration for Gainesville. I said a prayer to myself before I started my watch that night for the man upstairs to watch over my brothers and sisters. Though many will never understand why it wasn't them instead, I know through my faith in the good Lord that it was his time and LT will now be our angel that will help carry the rest of us through the long shifts, stressful days, and times of trial. LT will be missed and never forgotten. Many of us will remember those special times, funny times, and those ugly times. I can laugh now when I remember LT always calling me into his office to have our little come to Jesus meetings and him always telling me that I was the most strong willed, open minded redhead he knew! Of course I always told him that his mama should have told him about us redheads which made him laugh. Despite many professional differences we may have had LT was a dedicated officer, awesome friend, wonderful husband, great son, and excellent father and role model. Here is to you LT!!!! In our hearts always, and keeping us safe from up above you will never be forgotten and rest in peace my brother.
