"My Brother"
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
He was a cop.
Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.
Rest easy Brother Saunders, we have the watch...
I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Isaiah 6:8
You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrafice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!

MY PRAYERS ARE FOR JASON'S FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND CO-WORKERS.
I BEGAN WORKING WITH JASON IN DISPATCH IN JUNE 2002 AND CONTINUED AS HE BECAME A DEPUTY 2 YEARS LATER. JASON WAS ONE OF THE KINDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET. HE ALSO MADE ME LAUGH ALL THE TIME BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS SO AFRAID THAT I WAS GOING TO GO INTO LABOR IN DISPATCH AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO DELIVER A BABY. I HAVE SO MANY GREAT MEMORIES OF HIM AND I AM SO THANKFUL THAT I HAD THE CHANCE TO KNOW HIM.

THOSE CLOSE TO THIS HERO, PLEASE TAKE COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT I, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS ACROSS THIS LAND, GRIEVE WITH YOU. KEEP HIM IN YOUR HEART, AND PASS HIS STORY ALONG. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of this fine young man. Although I did not know Jason, I have heard only wonderful things about him for the last several years from my sister, a Campbell County 911 dispatcher, who was trained by him when he worked there before becoming a Police Officer and dispatched for him since. I pray that reflections on his life and service will inspire others and allow them to glimpse the truth - that what we do is not a job, it is the fabric of who we are.

Although I only met Jason a few times I can say that Campbell Co. Sheriff's Office has lost a very fine young Deputy. Jason has seen me on a few traffic stops and has always stopped to check on me and back me as needed. I wish I could take away the pain and suffering that Jason's family and girlfriend have at this time. The little I know Jason I do know that he was very full of life and was excited about his job.
Jason would not want anyone to mourne the loss of his life but would want them to celibrate his life and the good that he did while here on this planet. A tragedy has occured and that a ciminal has killed an officer. This world will now be without 1 of its great hero's.
Jason you can rest in peace at the side of the lord. I'm sure that he knows that all his brothers and sisters that walk the thin blue line have the watch now.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Saunders and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Saunders has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family and friends of Deputy Saunders, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Saunders is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
