I am still in complete shock that Jason is gone. I worked with him from his start at Public Safety. His loss will be felt by all he knew him. I will never forget that smile. I can still see him sitting in his cruiser smiling as I drove by him a few weeks ago. He was a great young man, a great friend and loved being a deputy. My prayers are for his family, friends, our dispatch family and the Sheriff's Office. You will never be forgotten!

It is truly grieving that another hero has been taken from us. In reading some of the other reflections, it is obvious that you were loved and you will be missed. To your family, I send my sympathies to you at this time. God will give you what you need to persevere through this tragic time. To all the deputies at CCSO, thank all of you for all you do. You are appreciated. Continue your watch knowing that what you do is NOT in vain.

To the family of Jason Saunders, I want to send my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your son. In a time like this it's hard to know what to say to help ease the pain. Just know that you have gained a new "family" with the law enforcement community and if you ever need anything they will be there for you. I can tell by the words of others that he was someone you should be very proud of, it seems as though you raised a wonderful young man.

To his Sheriff's Office family, please know that we feel your pain and know what a horrible time you're going through right now. We know the sense of loss that you're feeling and how hard it is to understand it all. Take care or yourselves and each other. In our own time of loss we pulled together and leaned on each other to get through, without each other it would have been unbearable. If you need anything at all from our Department please let us know, even if you just need someone to listen.

I only met Deputy Saunders a few times while I was working in Brookneal, VA. He and I had backed each other up a few times, so I never had the chance to get to know him. Yet when I heard the news of his death, my heart cried and my stomach felt like it was punched in the stomach. The few times I met him, he was always polite, cordial, and there for me as a fellow officer.

I cry with and for Deputy Saunders' friends, family, loved ones, and our brothers and sisters at the Campbell County Sheriff's Office as we all have lost another True American Hero. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was truly blessed by knowing Deputy Saunders. Take heart in your memories of him because, "it is not how he died that made him a hero, but how he lived."

Deputy Saunders, you may rest in peace and watch over us, and not worry. We will continue the watch.

And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me. -Isaiah 6:8

We have lossed a true hero and friend. Not only was Jason a fine deputy but also a great volunteer firefighter for the Altavista Fire Company. Loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. This tragedy is far reaching. To his family whom he loved so much, my thoughts and prayers have been with you since I heard the horrible news. Jason will never be forgotten.

Jason was my cousin but we grew up together and he was like a brother.

Life will never be the same without you. You never seemed to be mad and you always were willing to help someone. I can remember so many things and it is hard to put them into words. All the times you spent the night with us at grannys. You were the hardest person to wake up for school in the mornings and you always had to have a sausage biscuit with grape jelly or grannys french toast. I just don't know how we will survive with out you. I know you are in a better place and you will be watching over every single one of us. I wish that my baby Jaxon would grow to know and love you like we do but God had other plans for you.

I love you and you will never be forgotten.
