I worked with Jason as a dispatcher with campbell county before he went to the sheriff's office and I went to animal control. Jason was a great guy and made working with him fun. You could always count on him to crack a joke to make everyone laugh. He always seemed to get the weird 911 calls that made everything so exciting. I was greatly saddened when I heard the news of his death. He was so happy to become a deputy and loved the job. I will miss him and send my deepest regrets to his family, loved ones, and brothers and sisters in the sheriff's office, dispatch, fire and rescue departments. Rest in Peace and someday I will see you in Heaven.

You are the one and only and the last memory I have of you is sitting on Cheryls and yours back porch and you asking for that peice of chocolate cake that she had made you. You were grinning from ear to ear saying baby where is my chocolate cake. She brought it to you and asked what you wanted to drink and it was sitting right next to you. Than I asked you what do you want us to eat it for you too. We all laughed and so did you with that big smile you always have and you said yup. We love you Jay and I miss seeing you around the house and opening the grill to cook Cheryl the steak complaining about how cold it was outside. But you still did it anyway. I still look for you to come out the back door and say whats up!!! The beach won't be the same without you this year. I love You Jay!!!! Watch over Cheryl... Your friend always GINA...

I never knew that when we last talked Monday, that it would be the last time I heard LATA! You were an older brother to me when I needed it and was always there for helping fix things, truck or otherwise. Thank you for the memories of running calls, like the crazy woman in Hurt that jammed her finger or just the riding around town chillin. You will always be missed around this place and will NEVER be forgotten. If only all of us could have been more like you. You were a great dispatcher, firefighter, deputy, and crew member.
Rest in Peace Brother
We'll keep it going to the end

Jason,
You were truly an outstanding young man and a great friend to me. I remember when I first started as a Dispatcher for Campbell County, and we were in the midst of a snowstorm. I went to the parking lot to go home and found my vehicle stuck on the ice. You came to my rescue and moved my vehicle from the ice and told me to call so you would know I made it home safely. I called and you answered the phone and told me how worried you were and how glad you were that I had arrived home safely. I saw you only hours before you passed away and you had come by Dispatch to check the tire on my car to make sure it was okay. You always looked out for not only me, but everyone who had the honor of being touched by your life. I know God has a plan for us all and I know you are safe in His arms, safe from hurt and harm. We all will miss you because you were a rare individual and we can all learn from you. You exhibited such kindness and compassion for everyone. Your parents can be extremely proud of the fine young man they raised. What a tribute to them you were.
Rest in Peace. I know you are surrounded by His Amazing Glory.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Saunders, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Jason,
While I sit here listening to the sweet music that was played at your funeral today I can't help but cry all over again. My life has not been the same since Tuesday morning around 3am. One of my, and I'm sure any dispatchers, worst fears came true that morning. I will never forget the words that came across the radio when you wrecked, they will forever haunt me, as will this entire event. I know in my heart that we did everything that we could do for you that morning as well as the responding Officers, Fire and EMS personnel but I still can't stop thinking "Is there something else that I could have done?" I still feel empty inside knowing that I will never see your beautiful smile walk through our dispatch door or hear your laugh when we start talking about some of the calls that you took when you were dispatching. It never seemed to fail, somehow you always seemed to get "those" calls....the monkey keeps hitting me or how about the computer assaulting me, but you stayed right in there and did what you had to do, kept a straight face and made sure that the person on the other end knew that they had your undivided attention and that they were the only one that mattered at that time, just like you did with everyone that you came in contact with, no matter what the situation was or what was going on around you. Jason you were the kind of person that everyone strives to be like. You were a gift from God, an Angel sent here to bless each one of us with your kindness, your charm, your gentleness...YOU. I don't think there is anyone on this earth that can't say that you didn't touch them for the good in some way. You will be sorely missed every waking day, there wont be a day that will go by that we wont think about you. I just wish that we had one more day with you so that we could tell you over and over how much we love you and how proud we are of you. Just to hold you and hug you again. But we do not question God's plan...he needed another Angel to be by his side, another Angel to help those that are still here on earth and that Angel is you Jason. I will forever keep you in my heart and try my best to do something every day in your honor and memory. Your watch is over, your time on earth has come to an end, may your body rest in peace, your soul live in each of us and your heart live on. For Jason, you gave to the very end, you paid the ultimate price and I am honored to have been able to call you my friend. God speed dear friend for I will not say "Good-bye" as we will meet again someday. P.S. I'll bring you some Skittles.
Peggy, Dale and family,
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. Rejoice in the knowledge that Jason is in a far better place than each of us. He is sitting at the right hand of our Precious Savior. We all will see him again at God's will. Please know that if there is anything that you need please do not hesitate to call. Jason taught us all to love and give unselfishly. You raised a fine young man. We all will miss him dearly.
With sincerest love,
Wendy

Well Crzy Jay, I still can't believe you're gone. You were a good friend to me over the past few years. It's hard knowing you won't be around for me to talk to anymore. I will never forget when I told you I was getting married and having a baby and your words to me were "O LAWD." I thank God everyday for allowing you to be here to serve and protect our community and I take comfort knowing you're up in heaven looking down on us all. To Jason's family, I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a good man. You are in my thoughts and prayers. We all love and miss you so very much Jay.
