Its been over a month now and i still can't believe the tragic event that took place that night. It seems like everything is a bad dream and eventually we'll wake up and it'll all be alright. Unfortunately thats not the way in which things work. You served well Jay.

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky,
but rather openings where our loved ones shine down
to let us know they are happy

Miss you

To the friends/co-workers of crazy J.

I want you to know that as you mourn his loss, the whole of the US mourns with you. That is so evident in the notes that I read from LEOs all across the country. Nothing will make losing a great guy like crazy J easier, but I'm glad to see that your brothers and sisters are doing what they can to acknowledge your hurt.

Remember the principals that this one man stood for and try to instill them in other younger officers that will come after him. This is how he will live on through all of us.

We're here for you as Jason surely would be too. Shore up the pillars of your friends/co-workers the road will be long.

Take care

Aloha Deputy Sheriff Jason Lee Saunders,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That sacred light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.

This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.

Deputy Sheriff Jason Lee Saunders, God Bless you. You are a hero. As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are Family.” No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace. I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers, peace and love beyond all understanding. I honor you today. You will NEVER be forgotten.

--"Your life is more important than you can imagine."-- Maya Angelou

** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **

THE PEACE OF " I "

I still can't believe you are gone. I know you are in a better place, but you are missed by so many. I still expect you to come into dispatch and give us a big smile, your famous 'Whatz up' and a big hug. I know God needed another angel and you are now watching over all of us. The last time I worked and your shift marked on duty was the hardest thing for me. I kept expecting to hear your '436 to Campbell', but it never happened. You touched so many lives, including mine. You will be in my heart forever. Love & miss ya Crazy J!

Things in memory of Jason that will be missed around the house:
His soft spoken voice.
Jason liked to joke and kid around to make us laugh at the silly things that he did.
Jason and I would get on the bicycles and ride wheelies for the kids in the back alley way as they all watched. Cheryl, Sam and Gina would be on the back porch talking and watching all of us.
In the summer Jason, Cheryl, Joseph, Sam, Gina, Dillon and I would go over to my parents house to swim. Jason could not float. He would sink like a rock. We tried to teach him how but every time he would go under. We all got a good laugh out of that.
Sunday April 1st Jason, Joseph, Wyatt, Forest and I were in the back field behind the house throwing the baseball. Jason came up to me and said "Dad and I talked about buying the field for an investment and so the kids could have a place in the neighborhood to play."
Jason always liked to help out if he had time. God needs angels. I believe He has a very good helper.
One last thing that can not be forgotten is his signature wave.

Jason,
It is now April 12,2007. I still am hoping to wake up and this is all a bad dream. But unfortunately deep in my heart I know that will not happen. As we laid you to res this past weekend I cried but smiled as I heard story after story. You had a beautiful soul. Today my son turns 4 months and as I sit here missing you my wish is that I can raise my son to the type of man you were. That is every mothers dream. This is the first time I have worked shriff since you passed and I find myself waiting to hear your voice. I miss you baby jay. I will forever remember you. You have touched me in many ways. Love you baby jay. Rest in peace. If you get the chance look down on us from time to time. We all still need your help.
