Reflections for Police Officer Jeff Shelton
My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Officer Shelton's wife, family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

When we see police, we say a prayer because we do not know what danger they may be in. This double tragedy should be a reminder to all of us to be diligent in our support and prayers for those who give so much. We also pray for healing for those who had to return to work leaving no time to recover. We do understand the entire force cannot take time off to recover. We do love and appreciate every one of these officers and need to let them know.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Officer Shelton, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Hearing the news of the officers needless death left me heartbroken and in tears. Knowing he gave his life to protect me and my family strengthens my love and deep respect for all police officers and public servants who so unselfishly give of themselves for the safety of strangers. May God keep you and watch over your loved ones and brothers who have taken your place to continue to protect the innocent. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your service. I am hopeful that the person that murdered both Officer Shelton and Officer Clarke will be brought to justice. I am sure your fellow brothers in blue will not rest until it happens. It is hard to lose one officer, I can't imagine losing 2. The whole law enforcement community is grieving.

I just Found out about this horrible shooting this morning from this internet. I saw the eye witness interveiw; I could not believe how cold and insensitive they appeared on camera. I don't know anyone involved, But it is so painful to see our Police Officers Shot Down in this way over nothing. My Heart Goes out to their Family, and their wife, whom I understand is pregnant with a baby now.
I am so sorry. I wish there was something I could do.
If so, you have my e-mail address. My prayers are with you and your family. Love, Sue
