For the past year Jeff and I worked together in South Charlotte. He cared deeply about his work, and took pride in doing the job right. He is a role model for me and I aspire to be more like him. He was the kind of man that would do anything for anyone and not think twice about it. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends. The world is a darker place without him here. But I know in my heart that he is up there watching over us waiting at the gates of Heaven. Jeff, "I'll drive the Bronco". Rest easy my brother, we'll take it from here. Save me a seat and I'll see you when I get there.

To the family and loved ones of Officer Jeff Shelton and his fellow officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department:
On behalf of our family, I want to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Shelton was murdered in the line of duty. His valor and dedication will never be forgotten.
In reading the loving reflections, it is obvious that Jeff was an amazing young man who touched many lives in a positive way. I can see that he is so loved and will be missed by so many.
The circumstances of his death were heart breaking and I know caused much anquish for all those affected. To his parents, I share your agony in losing a cherished child and know that the lives of everyone who called Jeff beloved have been forever changed. To all his family, I pray that you find comfort in your faith, each other and friends as you struggle with this devastating loss. May you be embraced by your law enforcement family and other police survivors who share this journey with you.
May Jeff's spirit continue to soar and his memory continue to inspire. May God hold Jeff and his family in the warmest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul.
Heaven has two new heroes today, but how I wish it were not your Jeff and his fellow officer.
Our family lost our cherished Larry when he was ambushed and fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two robbery suspects on April 23, 2005. We were supported and comforted by the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and that wonderful community will be there for you. Nothing takes away the pain of your loss, but the comfort of the law enforcement community will help you endure what will seem at times unendurable.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Jeff gave to his community and the citizens of North Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 1, 2007.

I am touched by all those who are slain because I know it can happen to me or my fellow officers. However, this one touched me more. My brother, and officer with CMPD, was on scene at this call and called me when he was going home to get some sleep. I am his little brother and he called to warn me and tell me to be ever more careful. I will keep your families in my thoughs an prayers and hopefully drive the 8 hours to make the funeral. God Bless.

words cannot express what you feel at a time like this. To the family of Officer Shelton, we offer our encouragement and prayers for strength to endure this time of heartache and loss. I am like so many who didnt know this fine officer personally, but working in the EMS field, we work closely with the many wonderful officers of CMPD and law enforcement all around. When something like this happens, it tears at your heart just the same as it affects all of us in the EMS, fire and police family. To the officers of CMPD, I offer my prayers of support and strength as well as we know this is also hard for you guys when you go to work each day and this friend and co-worker isnt on patrol with you guys. but know that he is watching from above and will always be here in our hearts and will ever keep watch from above.
