Fear Not Friends They Are Now Home,

I Have Summoned Them To My Thrown.

For Your Emptyness On Earth Is Puzzeling,

May Their Presence Here In Heaven Be Comforting.

Their Earthly Journey and Worries Were Put To Rest.

Their Ultimate Sacrifice Was Their Last Test.

Now Donning Wings To Spred and Soar

and Be An Angel For So Many More.

Greive Shortly Of Their Bodily Loss,

But Know They Are Here With Me,

With Wings From The Cross.

The Holy Spirit inspired me to write this. I do not need credit for these words, but give onto the Lord the glory. For he has made it possible for our brothers to be in a better place. A place we all have the opportunity to end up if we make the right choice. God speed brothers, keep a watch over your families, friends and the community you served. Help them to comfort eachother and enlighten them on the power of the Lord our God. Help guide us in the many decisions we need to make to ensure safety to those we protect and as long as the Lord allows, let us make it home safe to our family and friends. We will keep fond memories and continue to live, serve and love. When it is our time to join you, greet us at the Gates and we will gladly take our final assignment. Until we meet again, brothers, God Bless.

I remember the first time I met Jeff at the South Division Office. Jeff had just transferred to the Division, and I was working light duty in the office. It was late in the morning around 0800 hrs when Jeff walked into the office door, and I was sitting at the computer. He immediately introduced himself and shook my hand. Jeff was telling me about the late call for service he had taken, and we immediately became friends.

When I returned to full duty, I had the pleasure of working with Jeff as he worked third shift and I worked fourth shift. I enjoyed working with Jeff as he was full of energy and always ready to work. Jeff didn’t like sitting around and would often say “let’s go get into something”. Jeff was a great partner to have with you when answering a call. Jeff could calm a situation down or would be ready for anything in a seconds notice.

Jeff was incredibly loyal to his friends and fellow officers. Since I worked forth shift and would get off at 0300 hrs, Jeff was always willing to take a late call for me or take the report so I didn’t get off late. He would call me on his cell telling me to get the “info” for him, and he would take care of the report for me. Jeff was concerned about me getting home to my family knowing that I would have to get up in the morning to spend the day with my eight year old son. I could honestly say that I trusted Jeff with my own life knowing that he would never leave a fellow officer.

When I had my break, Jeff would often meet me for a cup of coffee and talk about our families and work. Although I have not met Jeff’s wife Jennifer in person, I got to know her through conversations with Jeff late at night. Jeff spoke highly of Jennifer and loved her and their dog Cody, a Cocker Spaniel. Jeff could brighten my evening with a joke and his personality, always a true friend.

I often spoke to Jeff as he would call me out of the blue from his cell phone just to chat. I remember one day he called me as he was traveling to the beach with his wife just to see how things were going. I also remember talking to Jeff one afternoon a couple of weeks ago as he was working off duty at a bank and asking me how my shoulder was healing and how I was doing. Jeff was telling me how he loved working at his new division (North Tryon Division) with Sgt. Gaines.

I consider Jeff as part of the Bush Family and will miss him greatly. He is a true friend, and I will never forget him or the conversations I had with him. Until we meet again my brother and friend, I know that you will be one of the first to greet me when it is my time. To the Shelton Family, my deepest sympathies.

Shelton,
I do not have the words to describe all the feelings that I have. I know as a fellow Officer I could count on you. I remember the time off of Sharon lakes running mad you were and still are my gazelle. All the nights at Ms. Ada’s getting a cup or just hanging out. I remember the time I got stuck in the down pour on my motorcycle, all I did was call and there you were with the garage door up saying a few choice words at me smiling, telling me how bright I was. On that day I met your beautiful wife, and her parents that’s the type of man you were. During your meal with family over you opened your home to me until my wife and kids could come get me. The times we met in the neighborhood with your wife, and Cody. Man you still do not know the impression you left with Bubba, Madison, and Mikayla. Misty was always reminding me to tell you thank you for all you did for me. That’s what brother’s are for you would always say. I hope and pray for Jennifer, and your entire family. As before if anything is needed from your family I will be there no matter what they need. You are my right hand man, my strong side I just cannot believe that you are gone. The lord works in mysterious ways Lord I hope and pray you can shed some light on this for me because I truly did lose a Brother, friend, and a loved one all at once. I promise to carry your honor with me every day until we meet again. I just hope I can be as brave as you are!! Thank you for all of the memories good, and bad. JEFF SHELTON YOU ARE MY HERO!

When something like this happens, I struggle to try to make sense of it, and question why it happened, but it always ends with the same answer: I don't know. I wonder why it happens, I mean, we're the good guys, right? The only comfort I have found is that obviously, his purpose on this earth was served and God has other plans for him. Take comfort that God has a special place in heaven for the Centurions. Our prayers and thoughts are with the families and the department. Rest well my brother. Semper Fidelis.

Jeff worked off duty at Wachovia where I was the service banker. Boy did we laugh and share some great conversations. Jeff's the kind of guy you can't wait to see. He's just a great guy ! I am trying not to be sad since I am sure he's looking down from a place where there are no more tears.

Officer Shelton,

I find that I am at a loss for words when reading about this senseless murder. There are no words that can be said to describe how this hits home for all law enforcement officers across the country. There is one thing that is sure and steady. That was your service to your community. I appreciate your obvious dedication to the citizens of Charlotte and your profession. Rest easy brother. Your watch is over.

In times like this I know of only one place to find rest. Yes, In Christ. I pray that you found God's rest and through this your whole family and all of your friends and brothers will know the rest that comes only from God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. When you ask in faith then you have received in faith from the gracious heavenly Father who loves and cares for each of you. He waits for you to ask and to seek Him. I know that He will comfort you if you lean on Him. Never run from Him, run to Him; the beginner and finisher of your faith. Yes, I know you ask. How God could let this happen? The Best I can tell you is that He Knows better than we do and the He needed my brother, my hero more than I and when I cried He cried with me and with you. Jesus Christ loves you and as your Heavenly Father, He wants to hold and comfort you when you hurt.

I do not understand how a violent individual is allowed to roam the streets and kill our brother officers. Who ever let this guy loose should be proscuted as an accessory to murder.
