To my brother officers, family and friends in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department my thoughts and prayers are with you. There is no greater pain than the loss of one of your own. I know that you will man up and carry on for Jeff and Sean. To the families of these fallen heroes their sacrafice is not in vein. Though they are gone their spirit will live on in every officer on every shift. I pray that God will ease your pain and grief and that you may draw strength and comfort from their brothers in blue. Jeff, thanks for looking out for my little bro and making sure he made it home safe. Though gone you will not be forgotten and rest assured we will hold the thin blue line.

Since late Saturday night when I heard the call "officers down", through all of the radio traffic, I have prayed. Since the dreaded call from an officer at the hospital giving us the final news, through all the reports on the news and both funerals, I have cried. I have spent this past week wanting so badly to say something, anything, that could bring you all some comfort but nothing seems right.
To the officers who have suffered the loss of two brothers yet have continued their duties, covered the shifts for officers from Jeff and Sean's district, stayed with the families, comforted each other and the public, and stood tall a proud to honor Jeff and Sean's service and sacrifice - You have honored the badge with your courage, you have honored the uniform with your strength, you have honored Jeff and Sean with your grace and you have honored their families with your tears. I am proud to know you and my pain and prayers have been for you and your families as well.
To Jeff and Sean's parents and family- I can not fathom the pain of loosing your child. They chose a life of service as the soldiers of God. None are so blessed as those that serve the weak and helpless. To live a life that improves the lives of all those you meet is divine. These men, your sons, lived that life. They worked hard to improve the lives of the people in the community they served. I know God has a special place in Heaven for Jeff and Sean.
To Jennifer and Sherry - I am the wife of a road Deputy. I know the fear always present when they put on that uniform. I know there is nothing that I could say to you to ease your pain because I know there is nothing that would console me. I just continue to pray that the peace and comfort that only Christ can bring will make each day a little more bearable than the one before it until, one day, you will breathe without pain and be able to remember, with joy, how blessed you were to have had such a precious love.
My prayers are with you always,

The Fallen
A call went out. A disturbance, a fight.
You stepped up to make it right.
You answered the call. You answered it fast,
Not knowing this time would be your last.
Even as the peace was finally restored,
tragedy struck as in years before.
You struggled and fought never giving up the fight.
Then, the call broke hearts as it split the night.
"Officers down." It's the call they all dread.
Our brothers are down. Are they hurt? Are they dead?
As the sadness unfolded, we cried, our hearts broken
with grief so profound it can barely be spoken.
What do we do now that you're gone?
How can you expect us to just carry on?
What would you do if you were still here?
Then two still small voices whispered in my ear.
"We did what we loved and we loved what we did,
Fulfilling the dreams we both had as a kid.
To take care of others and help when we can.
Standing strong in the day and being a good man.
Watching out for our brothers and sisters in blue.
That's what we did. That's what you'll do.
Our lives may have ended, but our spirits live on.
So, brothers and sisters keep fighting on.
We know your pain and we know your sorrow.
Believe us, they will both lessen tomorrow.
Let it go! Cast it off! Don't give into the pain!
Don't let our deaths have been in vain.
We stood for something bigger that us all
And we know now the price of answering the call.
But answer you will and answer you must.
For you are the finest, the truest, the just.
Fight the good fight, as they always say,
And pronounce it good at the end of the day.
Do you job from the heart and you'll do fine,
And you honor us proudly as the Thin Blue Line.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
Godspeed my brother, you served your community well. Watch over your brothers in blue.
