This is a day that no peace officer wants to face. We often put our family life on hold to respond to the call of duty, not knowing what we might face or what will happen. We do our job so our families and friends will be safe. Officers Clarke and Shelton answered this call with the ultimate sacrifice, May They Rest In Honor and Peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with your families and with the brave members of the Charlott-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Another fine officer lost to another senseless tragedy. Another officer's family grieving over lost hopes and dreams. I am sure when they find the scum that is responsible for this incident his lawyer will talk about how bad his childhhod was and how he didn't get much attention when he was little. He'll dress up in a nice suit and have his 15 minutes of fame. It is my sincere hope that true justice prevails in this case because this morning I am simply mad. Mad because another police officer had to die because of another scumbag that isn't worth the air God allows him to breathe. Mad because another police officer's child has to go one minute without their father. I am mad because I am a COP and this morning I am proud of that fact! Officer Clarke you are a true hero in every sense of the word. My prayers go out to the family of Officer Clarke and just know that officers from all around the Charlotte area grieve with you this morning.I pray that the pain of this loss lessens in the days and months to come. God bless and keep you.

What a tragedy to lose 2 officers doing their duty and the job they loved. Putting their lives on the line 24/7 and their lives take in a brief second from someone who didn't give one thought to the value of another person's life. Our prayers and sympathies go with all who knew Officer Clarke, even though they seem empty at this time of deep sorrow......maybe you can come here with a heavy heart and leave this wonderful memorial with a lighter heart.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
"A Part of America Died"

Somebody killed a policeman today
and apart of America died,
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side,
the suspect that shot him will stand up in court
with counsel demanding his rights,
while a young widowed mother must work
for her kids and spend many lonely night
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war,
Though the flag of our nation wont fly half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star,
Yes, somebody killed a Policeman today,
in your home town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line,
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street
and he stands at each new rookies side,
He answered the call,of himself gave his all,
And a Part of America Died.
