Although I've never met you, we are bound together by a brotherhood. I feel the loss of a fellow officer just as if it had been my own blood. My condolences to your family. God bless and keep you. Rest in peace in the arms of Our Father.

Here we go again. It is ironic that little old North Carolina is leading the nation in line of duty deaths in this profession we call "law enforcement". This is a statistics no one wants to lead. This incident brings back all of the emotions I felt in the loss of one of our own (Sgt Howard J Plouff). It saddens me to no end to think of the pain and loss that those in CMPD are experiencing today and will experience for sometime to come. All I can say to all of the men and women at CMPD is keep your heads up and always remember that WE are professionals willing to protect and serve no matter the cost - even if it one day means laying down your life for a cause that WE all believe in. God bless and be safe. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the families of the fallen officers.

I didnt know either one of thes officers, but I know the Paramedics who raced them to the hospital, and I can feel the grief in the air here in Charlotte, and all I can do is pray for Officers Clark & Shelton and for their families why this had to happen to two fine outstanding members of our community is beyond my understanding, and the whole thing just breaks my heart. CPD, the citizens of this city are behind you 100%. prayers for all.

I just wanted to send my condolences for your department’s recent loss. It calls to the attention of many the lack of understanding of the general public of the constant dangers that our law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. From one servant of the people to another, my heart goes out to you all. Thank you for everything that you’ve done and will continue to do in support of peace and safety on our streets.

I did not have the honor of meeting or knowing either of these Officer's, but I have heard nothing but praise about them. Hearing the call go out and responding to that call to help two fellow Officers was the hardest thing I have had and want to face. My thoughts and prayers go out to both Officer Clark and Officer Shelton, May God Bless you both and your families. I am very proud to wear the same uniform they had worn and work for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department they worked for.

I did not know Sean Clark. Unfortunately for me, I did not have the honor of his acquaintance. From everyone I’ve spoken to, he was described with the best of terms and the kindest of words. He was a fellow officer and that is enough for me to suffer his loss.

A letter written a long time ago to a Mrs. Bixby of Boston
“Dear Madam,
I have been shown files from the War Department, a statement the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine that would attempt to beguile you
the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I can not reframe from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the
anguish of your bereavement and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved lost. The solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of freedom.
Yours Very Sincerely and Respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln”
A letter written over one hundred years ago that still applies to this day. My humble salute to all of our fallen officers and their families.

To the family and loved ones of Officer Sean Clarke and his fellow officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department:
On behalf of our family, I want to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Clarke was murdered in the line of duty. His valor and dedication will never be forgotten.
In reading the loving reflections, it is obvious that Sean was an amazing young man who touched many lives in a positive way. I can see that he is so loved and will be missed by so many.
The circumstances of his death were heartbreaking and I know caused much anquish for all those affected. To his parents, I share your agony in losing a cherished child and know that the lives of everyone who called Sean beloved have been forever changed. To his wife, I pray that you find comfort in your faith, your family and friends as you struggle with this devastating loss. May you be embraced by your law enforcement family and other police survivors who share this journey with you.
May Sean's spirit continue to soar and his memory continue to inspire. May God hold Sean, his wife and his other family members in the warmest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul. Heaven has two new heroes today, but how I wish it were not your Sean and his fellow officer Jeff.
Our family lost our cherished Larry when he was ambushed and fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two robbery suspects on April 23, 2005. Our family was supported and comforted by the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and that wonderful community will be there for you. Nothing takes away the pain of your loss, but the comfort of the law enforcement community will help you endure what will seem at times unendurable.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Sean gave to his community and the citizens of North Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 1, 2007.

I am touched by all those who are slain because I know it can happen to me or my fellow officers. However, this one touched me more. My brother was on scene at this call and called me when he was going home to get some sleep. I am his little brother and he called to warn me and tell me to be ever more careful. I will keep your families in my thoughs an prayers and hopefully drive the 8 hours to make the funeral. God Bless.
