My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Guardsman Gill's family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002, he was also MK2 Brian Nichols in the Coast Guard Reserve. I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

I am very saddened to hear of the loss of this fine young man, Coast Guardsman Gill, who died in the line of duty serving to keep America safe from terrorists and smugglers on our waterways, while saving those in distress.

He now patrols waterways of Heaven with St. Michael's squadron, as his last formation in this world was completed. As we mourn the loss, we must not forget to celebrate the life. Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends, John 13:15. I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

While serving in the Army in Iraq two years ago, my camp was at the port city of Um-Qasr, and we had the opprotunity to serve with the "Coasties" in the maritime law enforcement & port security unit. They were and are very professional men and women. The work I have worked with them over the years and their fast assistance to local law enforcement on the water has always been an asset. I greatly appreciate the courageous and dedicated and often overlooked role of the brave men and women of US Coast Guard in enforcing the law in addition to serving as part of our armed forces. I am proud of the USCG!

Rest easy brother, we have the watch from here. Semper Paratus!

Coast Guard Ronald Gil, be safe my friend. You made the ultimate sacrifice "
"SO THE OTHERS MAY LIVE"

When I start my tour of duty God wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone, let me be close to Thee.
Please give me understanding with both the young and old,
et me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgement in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience, let each man have his say.
Lord, if some dark and dreary night, I must give up my life, Lord,
with your understanding love, protect my children and my wife
