To Marcus Stiles,
Cpl. Stiles you were a great man and a mentor. I enjoyed riding along with you merley two weeks before this tragic incident. I had a great time with you with all that we did on that day from the cars we pulled over, the calls we went on, and our lunch break at subway. I had a blast doing all this with you and we had plans to do it all again over the summer. I cannot wait to see you again one day, and just so you know it is because of you that I am going to join the police force.
We love and miss you Cpl. Stiles.

To the family of Cpl Marcus Stiles.
My name is Tracy Lamont and I see that one of my poems has been dedicated to Marcus on this memorial page.
I lost my son, Adam to a car accident on March 2nd, 2007. He was 18 years old. His best friend - who was driving - died with him. I find that writing poetry helps me to process my grief and get it out of my system.
I know only too well that there is no way of ever getting over the loss of a child, but reading words of comfort can help.
Love and blessings to all who loved and lost this special man, Marcus,
Tracy Lamont, Inverness, SCOTLAND.

To Corporal Marcus Stiles and his loved ones:
On this the second anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.
My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.
Marcus, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.
This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.
Rest in Peace, Marcus. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Marcus gave to his community and the citizens of South Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 26, 2007.

My Adam by Tracy Lamont
I walked away that morning, without a backward glance,
I didn't know that moment was going to be our last.
The last time I would hold you or see your lovely face,
The last time I would kiss you and feel your strong embrace.
So solid and so real,so vibrant and alive,
A happy face with twinkling eyes, my fine young man, my child.
My first-born son, my Adam, the apple of my eye,
so cruelly taken from me, I never said goodbye.
The shattered remnant of my heart is strangely beating still,
with holes so black and fathomless no light could ever fill.
I don't know how I face each day without my darling boy.
Gone is all the happiness, the love of life, the joy.
The years stretch on before me, so bleak and dark and long,
I pray you walk beside me, son, and help to keep me strong.
And when my life is over, come to me on that day,
and smile at me and hold me tight and carry me away.
the wind that whispers through the trees, the brightest star at night,
a rainbow on a dismal day, a shaft of golden light,
All these are signs you send to me, a message from above,
that even death can't break the bonds of Son and Mother Love...
Tracy Lamont
I saw this poem and could not help but think of your mother. She misses you so much, I don't know how she does it. There are constant reminders for me day to day, I could never imagine what it must feel like to have been any closer to you and lost you the way she did. My heart goes out to her and your family, though it has taken me this long to leave anything on this site.
I still miss you. I hate the way things ended. You were the one always there for me, no matter what everyone thought, the ones who matter know the truth behind everything. I know you are watching me, helping me make decisions as I go. I see you in my dreams and you get the message across. I hope that you will be there when my day comes to go, I look forward to seeing your smiling face, hearing your laugh, and getting your "skinny" hugs. I think you really know now which individuals really valued your thoughts and opinions, and which ones still lean on your strength, please be there for them, like you always have been before. Until we meet again, Love always, Jennifer

I never knew you, but I knew Lonnie. It amazes me that these things happend, even in small towns.
Now that I am a criminal defense attorney, I understand how and why officers sometimes may use what appears to be too much force. You are just one of the many tragic examples.

Dear Marcus,
I remember when I first met you,, you were always smiling and telling jokes. You are missed by all and loved by so many. When I got the news that you were killed in the line of duty my heart sank deep down into my chest. You and Wells were doing what you loved to do and that was to serve and protect no matter the cost. You did your job and it was a job well done. God called you home that day not to try and make your friends and family sad but to bring you home because he had something bigger planned for you to do because he knew that you were the person to get it done! We miss you and love you and one day we will see you and Wells again. But in the mean time watch over us still and always know you are always on our minds and in our hearts!

Police Officer’s
23rd Psalm
The lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He walks me through the streets of crime,
But he gives me courage and peace of mind.
He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And he says in roman’s I’m a “minister of god”,
He leads me in righteousness as he restores my sole,
For his name’s sake he keeps me whole.
When I walk through death’s valley,
Right up to the door,
I will fear no evil,
For he comforts me more;
For thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.
He prepares a table,
Especially for me,
As I work daily among life’s enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And he anoints my position in the midst of it all.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear him say ‘well done…”
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Corporal Stiles, especially to you Brandy. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Marcus, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Marcus' life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Marcus' life was about so much more than the way he died. Marcus will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Corporal Stiles, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been four years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)
