Doug I've known you for about 10 years. I have always had so much respect for your low-key, thoughtful ways of looking at life. You raised my spirts whenever I saw you. I went out of my way to meet and talk to you because of the type of person you are. I will miss that. God bless you and your family. Hold a place for for family and friends so we can all be together.

Doug,
In the short time I knew you when you worked in Glendale, it was obvious what a wonderful person you were. The Law Enforcement family has lost one of it's best. Thank you for everything you have done; most of all, thank you for taking care of A.W. She is a very special person to me and I know what you meant to her. It was obvious by the smiles in her eyes when your name was mentioned. I will never forget going into every store with her in Ireland and picking something up to bring back for you:) I am still in shock and will be for a long time, as I'm sure alot of others will be. We will never forget you nor stop loving you. Rest in peace Doug.

I didn't know Officer Byrnes, but I wanted to offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends. I handed one of his flags to his mother this afternoon, what an incredible family, and group of friends and fellow officers. It was a touching ceremony. Aurora policeman, once a Marine, always a Marine. Being a policeman and a Marine, I guess you'll be doing double duty guarding Heavens Streets.

I never met Doug but this tragic incident hits close to home. We are all brothers and any loss of a fellow law enforcement family member is devistating. I heard of the incident from a really good friend of mine, Officer Andres Juliao from Aurora PD and it is just tragic. My condolences and prayers are with the family of Officer Byrne, all his friends and his Law Enforcement family aswell. God Bless.

In the short 7 years I have spent as a Police Officer, I have not met anyone with more integrity and kindness as Doug. Doug truly accepted everyone no matter their flaws and inspired us to be better officers. Doug will be sadly missed. I am lucky to have known him the few short years I did. Thank you to his Mother and Father for raising such a wonderful person.

The pain is still so fresh....how can it be that yet another life was taken in the line of duty? Officer Byrne, we are deeply saddened as you join the rank of Heroes in this grief stricken state of Colorado. What a fine example of courage, strength, loyalty and ispiration you and our other brothers in blue have left behind. My prayers are for your family and department, it's hardest for those left behind....
Rest In Peace.
