I didn't know Officer Byrne, but I watched his funeral on television today like so many other residents of Colorado. Through all of the reflections and kind words of his fellow officers it felt like I did know Doug. I am so sorry for everyone's loss. I cried and cried today as I watched the memorial service. He seemed like a kind, compassionate, and well respected individual. I know he will be sorely missed. I have been contemplating a career in law enforcement for quite some time now, and to hear how well liked he was and to hear about what an outstanding officer and human being he was makes me want to move forward with my decision to join law enforcement in some way. I wanted to say thank you to Doug for that. His story has inspired me to pursue my dream again. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family during this difficult time.

Doug, I only met you once on the Marine Corps birthday. You were with several fellow officers of the Glendale Police Department. I did not know them too well or you at all. I have grown to respect the officers you were with on that day. They have shown me what type of person/friend/OFFICER you were. I see how your loss has effected them not only as officers but as men. I know that you had to be one hell of man and one damn good jokester. You left some big shoes to fill by all who don the badge. I hope to live up to the standard you have set. I hope I can speak for many when I say REST IN PEACE OFFICER DOUG BYRNE we now have your watch.
