Reflections for Officer Daniel C. Martinez
I didn't know Danny as I was already retired but had heard good things about him. It's been 12 years since I retired but I still get a bit nervous when the news comes on in fear that something like this has happened. People outside the law enforcement community don't really realize the potential for these things to happen on a regular basis.
It's acredit to the men and womwn in blue that it doesn't any more than it does. This time it couldn't be avoided. God Bless you and your family. Our prayers are with you.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Officer Martinez. But being in Law Enforcement for over 15 years, I know I could walk up to him, shake his hand, and talk like we were old high school friends.
I have been out of Law Enforcement for 2 years and everytime I see something like this, I shake my head and wonder why did this have to happen? Every man and woman that's ever wore a badge and laid their life on the line for someone else, has been on the exact same call. I pray for the family of Officer Martinez, and his 5 children.
As I said, I never had the pleasure of meeting Officer Martinez, but today, I feel like I have lost a Brother in Blue.

Danny, There will never be another man like you. You would give anything to anybody, if you knew they needed it. Clay, the kids and I miss you more everyday! I know you can see us, and I can certainly see you everywhere! Halli and Evan now have the most perfect guardian angel. For anyone that knew Danny, they knew what a perfect father, husband, brother, and friend he was, he gave his whole heart or nothing! The world has suffered a tremendous loss! See you again someday! The Final Inspection
The warrior stood and faced God,
which will always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, old warrior,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"
The warrior squared his shoulders and
said, No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
'Cause those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint.
"I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
'Cause this world is awfully rough.
"But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just to steep,
"And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me ,
I've wept unmanly tears.
"I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here ,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
"If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand. In life
I didn't expect nor need to much,
So if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod,
As the warrior stood quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, my warrior,
You've born your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

I would like to take this opportunity to let Danny's family know how much he will be missed. I did not have the opportunity to work with Danny for very long but the time I spent with him will always be remembered. Danny was a very kind person. Danny seemed to enjoy being a Police Officer very much. Danny took on the responsibility to serve the citizens of Fort Smith on a daily basis. He performed his job at a high level and was respected by the community and his fellow officers. My family and I would like to send out our thoughts and prayers to Danny and his family. God Bless you Danny. See you in Heaven.

There is never anything that you can say when this happens. The man who took his life killed himself as well, so to a certain level officer Martinez's family will never have justice. To his family, what do you say? I'm sorry doensn't seem appropriate, and to his five children who will grow up without there father? For you Officer Martinez you have made the ultimate sacrafice, and no amount of thanks or prayer can repay you the debt you are owed! Thank you and god bless your family, friends, and you brothers and sisters in blue that are morning you... GODSPEED OFFICER!
