Reflections for Officer Daniel C. Martinez
Danny ... Your time has been cut short, unfortunately, but you will not be forgotten. Even to those of us whom have never really gotten to know you, we are proud to call you a brother. Enjoy the beat in heaven, and rest in peace.

Officer Danny Martinez, it is obvious that the desire of your heart was to protect and to serve. This is evident by all the agencies you worked for. I am sure that these agencies and these communities are all feeling a great loss at this time. Thank you for the life you lived and the ultimate sacrifice you made. When it comes to officers such as yourself, the word HERO is most appropriate! "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down his life for his friends." It is my hope that the friends you left behind in these communities always remember who you are and what you did. Mrs. Martinez, I am truly saddened at you great loss. I will pray for you and your family. To the FSPD family, I am saddened by your loss as well. Stay safe as you continue your watch. I thank all of you for all you do. Romans 13:4!

The first and only time I met Danny was on a week long racing tour in the Midwest racing Legend cars. I was with my father, and Danny was a with fellow named Gary. We spent a week together at various race tracks and camp grounds. This was the summer before I became a police officer and it was great being around Danny because he stood out as what a great police officer should be. God bless you Danny, your family, and the Fort Smith PD. You will be missed and you and your family will be in my prayers.

My prayers are for the family of Officer Martinez. May God bless and keep you comforted in these difficult times. A wife, mother/father, brother, sister, or child of a police officer lives in dread of such a happening as this. But know that you are not alone, even though it feels you are. He gave his life for others from the love of life in his heart and will not be forgotten. That is why they become police officers. Officer Martinez will have a special place in Heaven for his work here on earth.

I would just like to share with others some happier times that my husband and I were talking about. Not long after my husband and I were seeing each other I had taken him to a family Christmas gathering and that was the first time he had met anyone on my dad's side of the family. After we had gotten there, Danny and his brother approached my husband (then boyfrind) and began grilling him with questions, like had he ever been arrested or had he got tickets in their town before, which I believe then it was Shady Point. So, even when they weren't on duty, they still behaved like they were. He is a great man and a great cousin. I always looked forward to seeing him and his brother on holidays.
Now is a time of sorrow, but I like looking back on the fun times we had with him. He will be missed so much and my prayers go out to all, the FSPD, their family, my family, and to everyone that this tragedy has touched.

"We Remember the Officers"
We remember the officers who changed our lives,
The men and woman who protected us day and night,
People who respect for their dedication to the cause,
For when faced with danger, they never even pause.
We remember the officers who always stood true,
Whatever the color of uniform, brown gray or blue,
With pride and integrity they say "To serve and protect",
For the giving of their life, we offer our respect.
We remember the officers who we never really knew,
Persons strong enough to answer the challenge are few,
With heavy hearts we mourn the officers in eternal rest,
There's more to these people than the badge on their chest.

Danny was a great man, and a great officer. When he worked in Shady Point he went above and beyond to help my little brother who had a battle all his own, Danny did not have to do that but he did thats just the kind of guy he was. He truley cared about his community and the people, especially the kids. Danny will be missed terribly. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

We have not had the pleasure of knowing officer Daniel C. Martinez except through this horrific event. However, as our contact with police work is now fairly extensive via our involvement with officers through the CPA, we feel as if he is a member of our family and our tears flow, nonetheless, for his bereaved wife and children. We pray for comfort for all of his family that they realize how many people appreciate the sacrifice policer officers make everyday when they enter their police units and proceed to enable and protect us. May we never forget. With love and comfort, Ernie and Joan Schimmelman, Van Buren

Being a member of the law enforcement faternity, my heart goes out to the family of Officer Martinez. The lose of a loved one before their time, is very hard to understand or handle. My wife and Iost our youngest daughter December 25, 2001, house fire that burned to the ground that morning with her inside. Our life was turned upside down, never to be the same again and of all days to have happened, Christmas will never be the same.
I do know that there has to be a reason for everything and we survived for a reason. I've got to believe that she was finished here and had to move on. We miss her as I know you and your children miss Daniel, but the memories you share will enable him to live on in your lives.
Our thoughts are with you and your children and we hope that this unpleasant chapter in your lives, will pass and time will ease the pain as it did for us.

Officer Martinez , you made the ultimate sacrifice. You made the point."Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" (John 17:3, NIV).
Right now, wherever you are, repenting, lift your heart to God in prayer.

I will never forget the first day I met Danny and his brother Doug when they came to Monroe, Oklahoma. We were in the First Grade. In the 28+ years since then, growing up with Danny and then serving together as Police Officers in both Oklahoma and Arkansas, I always knew him to be kind hearted and sincere in both his personal and professional life. I have lost touch with so many of those that I knew growing up and I am proud to say Danny was not one of them. To the original Monroe gang: Keith, Doug, Mark, Steve, and Kendall- let us never forget Danny's friendship and the sacrifice that he made. I will continue to stand watch and hope to honor his memory with my service.
