The night of this incident I'm sure there were many citizens of Fort Smith having a great time doing what ever they wished. Because of Officers like Officer Martinez, this was possible. I know many of the Officers from F.S.P.D. and to them I wish gods speed in your healing. Go 10-8 every day and be proud of who you are and what you do, Danny is. To the family, my deepest condolences. Be strong for each other and GOD BLESS now and forever!

Danny, you were a great guy, a beloved friend, an awesome officer, and so much more. It was always great having you up at the school visiting when we was there. You did so much for everyone and it's hard to believe that your actually gone, but you will be remembered in our hearts. Go be with GOD and remember we will see each other one day. Until then, rest in peace. All of Wister loves you Danny!!

My prayers go out to the Martinez family and the FSPD. Having lost a brother and sister in a 5 week span 2 yrs. ago, I can somewhat understand the pain and grief. I will highly recommend that you to look to God for comfort. Unfortunately, this is the path that he has put you on, but always remember that if he brings you to it, he will bring you through it. Hold your heads high and be proud that Mr. Martinez stood up to help someone else whom he probably did not know and was only doing his job. Please remember the Lords Prayer especially the forgiving of those who trespass against us. MAY OFFICER MARTINEZ REST IN PEACE AND GOD BLESS HIS WIFE, CHILDREN AND THE FSPD.

To the Wife and Children of Officer Martinez,

I to just very recently lost my husband. In February, I got the horrible wake up call to a ringing doorbell with three officers at my door. My husband was a Toledo Police Vice Narcotics Detective who also was shot and killed. I know your shock and I know your pain. I cannot give you any advice as to how to deal with this but I know if the police department is as supportive for you, as the Toledo Police department has been for me, then you will be comforted by their family, although nothing will take away your pain. I am so sorry for you.

As for the Fort Smith Police Department, I know the pain you are going through as well as I have witnessed thousands of big strong lawenforcement officers break down and weep at my husbands funeral. Your tragic loss is heartfelt and you are all in my prayers. As for you Officer Martinez... God speed hero, you patrole those roads of gold, your brothers and sisters will take it from here.

We have known Danny since he was a small child, he was like a grandson to me and my husband. We will always remember the times that my husband, son, and Danny spent working on their race cars and enjoying many dinners with us. He was a very good police officer as well as a friend. We could tell that he enjoyed what he done. To the family we are very sorry for your loss. We will miss Danny dearly.

The job of Police Officer is a sacred calling. The Bible says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." But it goes on, to his Community, State, and Country.
His job is done; family and friends will miss him sorely. God has recognized Daniels love for his friends and called him home to his reward. Rejoice that he is in the presences of God now.

To all my Martinez famiy in AR. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Daniel. I remember him and his twin as young boys growing up in Ventura. I pray that God may sustain you through this grievious time. You are all in our family prayers!!
"I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and rescues them." Psalm 34 4-7

We were all so sorry to hear the news. Although we didn't see each other we knew we were related and we did see your dad from time to time. Your grandparents spoke of you and your brother with such love and pride. We will pray for them, and all the family you leave behind. We know you will be missed by all who knew you and we are all so sorry for this tragedy.

We just talked while on duty two weeks ago. We were talking about the times we had in C.L.E.E.T. police academy in okla. We became very good friends. You worked in Panama, and I worked at Pocola. Things like this is what I hate about the job, but we have to be strong and continue on to help others. I will never forget you! You and your family will always be in my prays. I will miss you my friend!!! GOD BLESS!!!

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.
I WENT TO SCHOOL IN PANAMA AND LIVED IN SHADY POINT AND NOW AM A RESIDENT OF FT SMITH I NEVER KNEW DANIEL PERSONALLY BUT HAD HEARD OF HIM AND SEEN HIS FACE, MY THOUGHT'S ARE WITH HIS FAMILY ..BLESS YOU ALL!

I went to High School with Danny and his brother, Doug. We were in FFA and played football together. Danny was a great person. Danny loved racing as his family and friends know well. I felt it important to recall a memory I had of Danny and his brother in Vo-AG (FFA)during high school. We were all having to learn how to weld on pieces of flat metal. Danny and Doug were way...past that. They were busy welding on the frame of their race car. They loved to go racing with their Dad. Danny was not loud or obnoxious. he didn't get into trouble. he just was an all around great person and a tough cornerback and safety on the football field.
We went to Reserve Police Officer training together in 1994. As we progressed in law enforcement, We both took other jobs in full time law enforcement. I went to the Drug Task Force. Danny was the chief in Wister, OK. He and Larry Loomis could always be counted on to be there to help serve search warrants and assist the drug task force. Danny was tactically sound and helped serve numerous high risk/felony search warrants. Danny was a great cop, a professional, and someone you could always depend on. He was a brother warrior and will never be forgotten. My true condolences to the family.
