To me as to many people Danny was a great officer and an amazing person. For the past few summers I knew Danny as "Coach D." When he was helping coach a softball team i played for. He wa a great coach and taught me alot. But he was also a friend we could talk to about anything and we always knew he was listening.I will always remember the positive impact he had on my life, on and off the field. He will always be a role model in my life. I will truely miss him!

Officer Martinez will be missed. In the bible, God says " Those that protect us are special angels". Those in Law Enforcement do what they do to make the world a better place. Danny did this. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

To his wife and kids

Im didnt know Officer Martinez but Im very upset at the favt that his life was taken. I know somewhere down the road there will be good that will come out of this. Its sad that the outcome of this could have been so different. May God be with his wife, kids and all the officers he served with

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Martinez, we have the watch...

I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Two smiling eyes are sleeping,
Two busy hands are still.
The one we loved so deeply
Is resting at God's will.
May he always walk in sunshine,
God's love around him glow.
For all the happiness he gave us,
only a few will ever know.
It broke our hearts to lose him
but he did not go alone.
For part of us went with him
The day God called him home.

Alice, I can't imagine how hard this is for you. The one thing that an officer's spouse fears the most is that one day there will be a knock on the door. I am so sorry that this has happened to you and your family. We are all grieving with you. Find strength and peace in the Lord and know that he will help you make it through this terrible loss. When you think you can't go on just lean on HIM. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Danny, I remember the first time I met you/talked to you like it was yesterday. It's Friday night around midnight and was my first time by myself on shift at the S.O.. You were working in Shady Point, and you had told me that you were working later that night b/c there was suppose to be some parties or something going on. Tucker was still "412" and was my North end, and I get a call out on Williams road this side of Panama "there's a fight, and someone's been stabbed!!!" then the phone goes out.....I hollared at Jason, and actually gave him the code S-48/knife, and advised him I was sending EMS. You call me laughing your butt off and say, "so your the newby right? okay now you should probably tell him what is actually happening, because unlike you people from the city (central Oklahoma), we don't actually know all the signal codes." So I called jason, and told him, and you were right! He said "I thought that's what it was, but just TELL whats going on from now on, no one else in there uses that stuff!! You made me more at ease that night, and I was able to lighten up a little, considering it was my first time to live that far away from home, and I knew no one here except Marcy & Terry.
It seems that you always did have a way to make a bad or uneasy situation more calm and relaxed. It is just how you're made I guess.
Thank you for always being a kind smiling face coming around the corner on a stressful day. And yes, everytime I see someone "playing solitare on the computer", it will put a smile on my face and a peace in my heart knowing that you are watching over all the guys....and us "dispatchers" too. LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY!!! Rest in peace....and put in a good work for us, God does know we all need it.

****To Danny's Fellow Brothers/Sisters****
To those that were on shift that night (on the street and in the office) remember that horrible things happen to good people, and no one is to blame, except the coward behind all of this. As far as justice being served, there is nothing ANYONE, no matter how bad they want to, can do about that here on earth, but he has had his judgement day, and you know where he'll be spending every day for eternity.
Stay Strong, Stay Safe, and ALWAYS Stick Together
A.S.A.P.

Danny,
I was just ending my shift when we started hearing the news over the scanner. At that point my heart stopped. I remember talking to you once or twice over the phone but wish I had the chance to have actually known you. I have heard many good stories about you since Friday and look forward to hearing more, especially from your former Panama Police Chief JW Partain, my Grand Father in-law. He has told us that it would get confusing at times when your brother would come around since you were twins. My wife Amber and I both send our deepest condolences and prayers to your family, the City of Fort Smith, and the Fort Smith Police Department. We will miss you my brother!!

There's a place in Heaven

I got to know Danny when he first started with Ft. Smith. Danny was a quiet person, but during his short career I got to know Danny. Danny would come by and visit with me during his shift always asking if I needed anything. Danny, was just a great person always wanting to help. My deepest sympothy to the family and friends. Danny made the ultimate sacrifice and for that he is truly a hero. Danny's tour of duty may have ended on March 23,2007, but I'm sure he started a new shift watching over each and everyone of us in a better place. God bless you Danny and may you rest in peace.

As far as I am concerned, law enforcement officers get the least respect, and the least justice, from the law. The are held to impossible standards that no one else could possible achieve; yet, when a tragedy such as this happens, those who demand unreal perfection from them are "devasted'.
As a long time law abiding resident of Fort Smith, I share the grief and loss of the Fort Smith police department and the family of this brave, honorable young man.
May his family and friends find comfort in knowing that he has gone to his hard earned reward in a place that honors his sense of duty and caring.
He will be missed by us all. We are made smaller by his untimely passing.

March 26, 2007

Danny,
You were the nicest man I have ever met! You treated everybody as if they were your own family! You always had a smile on your face, and everybody loved seeing it! Everytime I would walk into the short stop, you would smile and ask me if I was behaving, everytime I would drive up and down the roads you would smile while checking to see if I had my seatbelt on, LOL! Danny, you are greatly missed, and we love you! Alice my heart goes out to you and the kids! Be strong because Danny is watching over you even more now than ever.
