Reflections for Trooper Todd Holmes
I know Todd and Stephanie from church, Canton Church of Christ on Hwy 243, where they were memebers before they moved to Gilmer to start his career as a DPS trooper. Todd was a good Christian man and loved the Lord with all his heart. He loved his family and raised his children in the church. Todd and Stephanie were the ideal Christian family. He will be missed so much.

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Holmes' wife, children, family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

Trooper Holmes
A call was made for service and you answereed when many would not. You served the great citizens of Texas and stood boldly and proudly as the buffer between them and those who choose to prey on them. Thank you for answering the call!
Now you have answered a second call for service.
Mrs. Holmes you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. May God Bless you and your family!

Todd--
I was working and walked into Dallas Communications and learned of your death not long after it occurred. It's never a good moment to become aware of the passing of an Officer, but it really leaves an empty, sick feeling when it's one of your own, and that's the way I felt upon hearing the news.
I said a prayer for you and your family, and I hope you heard it. With that, sleep easy with God, Sir. You will NEVER be forgotten, and we thank you for your Service.

"My Brother"
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
He was a cop.
Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.
Rest easy Brother Holmes, we have the watch...
I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

To the family of Trooper Holmes:May God's grace, mercy and peace be multiplied to you through Christ Jesus our Lord. We weep with you at this tragic time in your lives, and we know that no words can be said to make the pain you feel go away. However, God is still in control even when our lives seem tossed about in a catastrophic storm. He makes no mistakes, and in time or maybe eternity we will say God knew best. For now, please do not feel bad about asking God why. Even Jesus, who knew no sin, when he was on the cross asked the Father why. God remembers what we are made of,and He loves you more than you could ever imagine. God has sent the Comforter to you and He admonishes you to pour out your complaint before Him. I met Trooper Holmes on at least two occasions in our profession, and he was always professional and a pleasant Trooper to be associated with. I know myself and my fellow Troopers at Troop G will miss running into him on occasion at the Texas/Louisiana border. He will be sorely missed. If we can ever do anything for you please do not hesitate to pick up the phone and call on us at LSP-G. Godspeed to you

Trooper Holmes and family,
When Jimmy was in the hospital you were there daily to visit and comfort our family. Your wife and children are precious. It is now my turn to comfort them. Rest in Peace Todd and know that your sweet family will be taken care of and prayed for. I am so fortunate to have had a chance to know you. It's hard to understand why you and Jimmy were taken away at such a young age, but I do believe that God has a reason for everything and it is in His plan to have you and Jimmy with Him. You will be greatly missed!
