Brother, you and your partner had BALLS OF STEEL!
There are so many people on the job that I know that would have turned and ran. Unarmed, you went the distance, and then some.
I cried when it happened and I'm still crying now.
There's a special place in Heaven for you and your partner.
I'm with some MOS right now, and you and your partner are absolute heroes!
A St Patty's day toast to both of you!

I have not thought of Nick since P.S.3., where we attended grade school. We were not friends, but as my eyes met his image, I remembered him instantly. I remember the shuffle of his walk, and his soft smile.
May writer and Auxiliary Officer Nicholas Pekearo rest peacefully.

To the family and loved ones of Auxiliary Police Officer Nicholas T. Pekearo and his fellow officers with the New York City Police Department:
On behalf of our family, I want to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Pekearo was tragically murdered in the line of duty. His valor and dedication will never be forgotten.
In reading the loving reflections left by family and friends, it is obvious that Nicholas was an amazing young man who touched many lives in a positive way. I can see that he is so loved and will be missed by so many.
The very fact that he served as an auxiliary police officer is so revealing of his character and integrity.
The circumstances of his death were heart breaking and I know caused much anquish for all those affected. The despicable coward who shot three unarmed men deserves to burn in hell for all eternity.
To Nicholas' parents, I share your agony in losing a cherished child and know that the lives of everyone who called him beloved have been forever changed. To all his family, I pray that you find comfort in your faith, your family and friends as you struggle with this devastating loss. May you be embraced by your law enforcement family and other police survivors who share this journey with you.
May Nicholas' spirit continue to soar and his memory continue to inspire. May God hold Nicholas and his family in the warmest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul. Heaven has two new heroes today, but how I wish it were not your Nicholas and Eugene.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the unselfish and distinquished service Nicholas gave to his community and the citizens of New York, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 14, 2007.
