Mike, I graduated the Criminal Justice Academy with you in 2001. One day I was reading a newspaper and there was an article about you when you were shot answering a domestic dispute. Who would have thought just a couple of years later I would hear about you again. It floored me the day that I found out about your passing. It seemed that we dont take the time to admire someone until they are longer with use. I have had the displeasure of attending 9 officer funerals since our graduation. I am saden to say that everyone of them was a friend of mine, that I knew on a personal level. I am deeply sadened by your passing. I pray that you will watch over your family, both personal and law enforcement. Godspeed brother. CLASS 417

Hey Mike,
We miss you so much and we think about you all the time. I know you are watching down on us and taking care of us. We are sorry that we missed your ceremony but, we all were sick and Coby had just had his surgery. Since we did miss it we decided to make that day all about you and talk about our memories of you. You know the ones. Our Georgios specials and our check point excitements. We are so blessed to have known you. We love you Mike.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes love or respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. To Mike's family, I share your anquish in losing a beloved family member. I can see from the many loving reflections that Mike was an amazing man who is loved and missed by so many. I am holding you in my heart's embrace today.
Rest In Peace, Mike. None of our heroes will be forgotten for the supreme sacrifice they and their families made.

Mike,
It took me a long time to be able to speak about you without bringing tears to my eyes. You were more than just a partner; you were a friend, a mentor and my gaurdian angel. I miss working with you on the ACE Team. When we were partners you stressed the importance of officer safety and knowing where your backup officer is. You were my cover officer many times and I am eternally grateful for that. In a split second things would change and you were always there to react to the change. I miss you brother. I hate it that your not here with me; but I am sure glad that I have you watching over me. "Four One Four" is still 10-41 for all of us.

Hey Mike
It's been over a year since your last call. I am grateful for all the things you taught me. I never pull a car over that I don't hear you remind me to always get two tires off the road. We all miss you, and every time we find drugs, I think of you, and how much of a kick you got out of tossing a car. Take care by brother, and keep a watchful eye on the rest of us meer humans.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Deputy Deese. I did not know him, however I wanted to offer a heartfelt apology for the loss of a man that served the public. I am so sorry for the family. I have a high respect for people who serve the public, and it is such a tragedy to lose a father, and husband, and an individual who serves our community.

Brother Deese, I was in a class today for driver training (EVO Class)and our instructor asked us all why we thought we were in this class and why it was necessary to have this class every year. After several answers that were not what the instructor was looking for, he slammed down a stack of papers and said, "This is why". I began looking through the stack of papers and each one had a fellow officer's photo on it and each one was of a fellow officer that was killed in the line of duty while driving in some form or fashion. Some in route to a call for service, some on the way home, and some just while patrolling the streets that they sworn to protect. The very last page that I looked at had your photo on it. At first I looked at it in the way that we would look at a person in a store or while we're on patrol that we knew for some reason but couldn't put a finger on it. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. You and I graduated the SC academy together, CLASS 417. I was so upset to see your photo and even more upset that I just found out almost nine months later.
Please know that even though we have not spoken since our graduation day as we both have gone our seperate paths, that my thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are with you and your K-9 partner Sonja, as well as your family.
Please watch out over us and help guide us through our lives and look over us as we continue to protect and serve our community. You have given the ultimate sacrafice and for that you will never be forgotten. God Bless You and Your Family, Lcpl. D. Rexroad HCPD

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Deese, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Phillip, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Phillip's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Phillip's life was about so much more than the way he died. Phillip will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Deputy Deese, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been four years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

While my K9 partner Gabe and I finish up our 12th month in Northern Iraq and mourn the loss of one of our buddies and his K9 partner, we feel the same pain for Deputy Deese and Sonya also.....we salute him for his service to South Carloina and to the United States, police officers and their K9's are just as much of a hero as a soldier in Iraq.

The Guardians Of The Night
Trust in me my friend, for I am your comrade.
I will protect you with my last breath
When all others have left you
And the loneliness of night closes in,
I will be at your side.
Together we will conquer all obstacles,
And search out those who wish to do harm to others.
All I ask of you is compassion,
And the caring touch of your hands.
It is for you that I will unselfishly give my life
And spend my nights unrested.
Although our days together
May be marked by the passing of the seasons
Know that each day by your side is my reward.
My days are measured by
The coming and going of your footsteps.
I anticipate them at every opening of the door.
You are the voice of caring when I am ill,
The voice of authority when I have done wrong.
Do not chastise me unduly,
For I am your right arm,
The sword at your side.
I attempt to do only what you bid of me.
I seek only to please you and remain in your favor.
Together you and I shall experience
A bond only others like us will understand.
When outsiders see us together,
Their envy will be measured by their disdain.
I will quietly listen to you
And pass no judgment,
Nor will your spoken words be repeated.
I will remain ever silent,
ever vigilant, ever loyal.
And when our time together is done
And you move on in the world
Remember me with kind thoughts and tales,
For a time we were unbeatable,
Nothing passed among us undetected
If we should meet again on another street
I will gladly take up your fight,
I am a Police Working Dog
We are the guardians of the night.
God be with the both of you.
