My deepest sympathy to the family and coworkers of this hero, Deputy Kevin Carper. We lost someone in our city last week, someone I knew well, and it has been one of the worst weeks of my life. I also have a wife and three daughters and these incidents have shaken me. It amazes me these heroes can willingly chase after criminals and in this case shoot his killer after being mortally wounded. His sense of duty was with him to the very end. Hopefully Spartanburg County residents recognize his sacrifice and bravery. No one I know does the job for the money, because it ain't much and it sure isn't enough when compared with the danger. Say a prayer for his family and for Deputy Carper, and say an extra prayer of thanks that heroes like this put on the uniform every day and keep us safe. I hope I live to see the day this page never adds another name.
