"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

My deepest thoughts go to your family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. I wish I'd been there for you last night-we would have taken this monster down together, or I would have fallen beside you while trying.

My deepest debt of gratitude goes to you for making the ultimate sacrifice for a society that does not appreciate what we might have to do every day. Salute.

My mother came out of the same class as Det. Dressel and both of my parents were friends to him. I want to send my love and prayers to his wife and children. Growing up this was my biggest fear and I cannot imagine what they're feeling. He gave his life protecting the city. He is not just a hero today, he's been a hero for 14 years, the moment he decided to put himself on the line for the City of Toledo.
