Another tragic loss. My family's thoughts and prayers are with the Dressel family. Sometimes the love of this job overshadows the danger we all know is there. Rest in peace, my brother. We will continue the work you loved and did so well. Keep guard at heaven's gates and put in a good word for those of us keeping the watch here below. We'll see you when our time comes.

My heart goes out to Detective Dressel's family. I have the utmost respect for our Toledo law enforcement and have a cousin and uncle on the force. Thanks to all law enforcement officers who daily put their lives on the line to make me safer. He was a true hero, may he rest in peace.

He knew this day might come, but didn’t think it was today. He left his loved ones one more time, but thought he would be back. If he had only known what lay in wait, maybe he wouldn’t have gone this time…… but of course he would have still. To Protect and to Serve was his choice and nothing else would do. So, He was out there every night protecting me and you. So remember this Hero and all those before him who are the best of us. Sleep well our Hero and know we will miss you so. We thank you now and forever for what you’ve given us. So may God Bless and Keep you and all of those you love. You are an Angel now watching over them from Heaven above.
THANK YOU!

We know the pain that the Toledo Police Department is going through after losing one of our own in 2005. God Bless Detective Dressel and may He be with his family at home and with the PD.

Keith..... When you moved in next door, it was like having the perfect neighbor, a fellow officer. I really enjoyed our talks, sharing stories about the job, and lending each other a hand when needed. Every time you told me some exploit you'd had on the job, you always said "But don't tell my Mom!" I've missed you and all the troops from the department since I retired and moved South. Go with God.

I can only hope that the kind words and actions that have been outporuing from the community and beyond offer you at least a little comfort. Thank you to Dectevie Dressel, his family, his wife and his children, for making the ultimate sacrifice to help protect and keep me and my family safe. Please know that he did not give his life in vein, and he will never be forgotten. Also know that he will also always be with you, looking down on you and protecting you from above. No words can express what we feel. This poem has already been posted, but I am re-posting. It is dedicated to the Officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us.

"A Part of America Died"

Somebody killed a Policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your hometown or in mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each rookies side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
And A Part Of America Died.

Being the brother of a county sherrif detective, I am very familiar with the sacrifices our law enforcement officials make in doing their daily profession. I am very thankful to you, Keith Dressel, and to all others who are willing to make those sacrifices. It is unfortunate that it takes a horrible situation, such as this, to make most of us realize just how fortunate we are to have brave men and women, like Keith Dressel, serving us and our community.

To Detective Dressel's family and friends...may God bless you in this very difficult time. May you find strength in Him and His love for you.

To Detective Dressel...May God welcome you to His kingdom. I thank you for your service in protecting me and my family. Bless you.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest in peace Brother Dressel. We have the watch!

I did not know Keith personally, but have heard many great stories about him. And I know that he was a great friend to those who were blessed to know him. He will be sadly missed. May you rest in peace and my deepest sympathy to your family.

My heart breaks for the City Of Toledo, and the Dressel Family.
Prayers for Keith's family will follow forever.
We lost a officer, let's not let this happen again.
The youngsters of today just have no respect for anything any more, and it is just a tragedy that this will get worse before it will ever get better.
Let us all Pray!

My heart breaks when I think about this senseless death. Detective Dressel put his life on the line for his community and has now paid the ultimate price for it. If there is any good that can come out of this, my hope is that it will be that what he and other officers work so hard for will happen - kids off the street, drugs and prostitutes out of our city and a safe place to live and work.

My heart is with his family and friends - I can't even begin to fathom the sense of loss they must be feeling.

Thank you Detective Dressel, for all the good and selfless acts you were able to accomplish in your short time here.

Danielle, I am so sorry about Keith. I hope Sara Winfield \
and Krissy Ensoll have reached you already, they are your
road to recovery. Both have lost their husbands in the line
