A Part of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU, MAY YOU REST IN PEACE

I have had the pleasure of visiting the City of Toledo numerous times with my family and for work. It is a wonderful City with a wonderful Police Department. I did not know Det. Dressel but reading his reflections I can see what a great cop and great person he was. Detective you will be missed greatly, and are a true hero. We have the watch now.

My condolences to all of the family members who are suffering through this hardship. Many men and women from day to day go out and do what this man was doing the night that he died: his job. Each and every day many of these men and women may have the thoughts going through their head of what will today bring me? will this be my last? what kind of punk kid am I gonna deal with today? While all of their family members sit at home wondering if they will come home or get a phone call saying that something terrible has happened. I am one of those people my father has been on the force for 18 years now going on 19. Growing up I didn't really understand the risks my father and Keith was taking in doing their job and I am thankful for all of those who share the job that Keith and my father choose to do. These men and women put their lives on the line daily for us and many of the people don't stop to think about what these officers are really doing. Many people don't realise that when an officer pulls over a drunk driver that he may have saved your life that night because the driver could possibly have done something harmful to you on his or her way home. Many of the criminals that are locked up and taken away could have made you a victim one day but thankfully to them they are no longer on the streets. This man was a true hero and he died doing what he loved to do for his family, for the citizens of his town, FOR YOU! Your murderer will get whats coming for him in due time. Thank you for everything you have done.
