Reflections for Detective Keith Dressel
--"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou
Aloha Detective Keith Dressel,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.
I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.
This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.
Detective Keith Dressel, God Bless you. You are a hero. As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are Family.” No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace. I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers, peace and love beyond all understanding. I honor you today. You will NEVER be forgotten.
** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **
THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"
Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,
The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,
The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.
My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,
Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".
A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

I had the pleasure of meeting Keith on a few occasions and was always impressed with the man, not just the officer. Keithe was genuine, quick with a smile and just a plain good guy. It saddens me that this situation had to happen, and he will be dearly missed. I hope his family realizes, some day, that the sacrifice they now face is one that is and will always be appreciated by residences of this city, whether directly or indirectly. Toledo lost a fine officer, as well as one hell of a man!

Speaking for all members of the Toledo Neighborhood Block Watch Program and its leadership, I wish to express the deepest grief at the loss of Officer Keith Dressel in the line of duty, and offer sincerest sympathies to his family, and his wife and the two children he leaves behind.
The Block Watch family looks upon Police Officers as heroes and as members of our family. Today we have lost a hero and a family member in a tragic act of senseless violence. In the twenty-five year history of the Block Watch Program in Toledo we have never experienced such a day, and it is a sad one indeed.
All Block Watch members citywide pledge their support to the family of Officer Dressel and to his colleagues and our partners, the Officers of the Toledo Police Department.

Keith, I had the pleasure working with you on a few matters, I have seen some of the stuff you have been through and I never thought for a day that I could do the job better than you. You were a natural thus this was the reason why you had the rank that you did. Your job ended sooner than we all thought, believe me when I say you fought many many battles and overcame lots of issues. So MONDAY is going to be your day brother. Bedford Township, Whiteford Township, Lucas County is going to be pulling all the stops, because your love and your efforts affects us. Trust me when I know your Wife and your children will be in the thoughts of the ENTIRE LEO Community from Toledo, to Monroe County and the surrounding states. I know TPD will PICK UP where you left off and they will do what they have to. Chief Navarre is one hell of a guy and if he has trouble getting those words out, you know for a fact he is distressed. Thats a Chief with a Heart, and Im so proud that you had a Chief like him to work for. You left your prints on the TPD and believe me those prints will be forever felt by the department forever.

A thin blue line is all that stands between our civilized society and total anarchy. Most of the time we are able to go anywhere at any time and be confident that we are safe. We should never take for granted that the dedication and bravery of men like Keith Dressel provides that safety and freedom to us. Words are inadequate at a time like this, but I hope that the heartfelt gratitude of the people of this city for officer Dressel’s sacrifice offers some small measure of comfort to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

So often, most people take for granted the men and women that protect and serve our communities. Not only in the face of tragedy, but every day... we should reflect and say Thank You to our Law enforcement departments who literally give their lives as they make our "world" a safer place.
Detective Dressel made the ultimate sacrifice. It's not how he died that makes him a hero... it's how he lived.

To the Family of Det. Dressel:
The prayers and thoughts from the Muskegon Police Department go out to your family, both home and work.
I grew up in Milan, MI which is about 1/2 hour from the border of Michigan and Ohio. I did have the pleasure of travelling to Toledo many times as I was growing up and enjoyed my times there. Every time I read this website it saddens me to read about another brother or sister who have died in the line of duty. It reminds me every day to do the best I can as a Police Officer.
To Det. Dressel, I say this...."Go rest high on that Mountain your work here on earth is done". To his wife and children, my prayers are for you both now and in the future. May you know the peace that only God can give you.
Rest in peace my brother, we have the watch from here!
