Reflections for Police Officer Anthony Jon Holly

"A DISPATCHER'S PROMISE" By Paula Ann Gomes

Another morning has approached
as I think of my officer again.
One of the many officers that swore
to serve and to protect,
and gave up his life in the very end.

That fateful day is something that
I am not allowed to forget.
It is that memory that reappears
each time I put on my headset.

And when I sit in front of the radio
and dispatch my officers to a priority call,
I silently hope and pray
that I hear them clear,
instead of hearing them take the fall.

You see, I have always read their voices
and sent back up when I sensed tension or fear.
But now, more than ever, it is their voice
I want to continue to hear.

Taking for granted that you will hear
an officer do another traffic stop,
just should not be done.
For it does not matter how routine
the stop or call may be,
it only takes one.

When one of our brothers or sisters
is lost in the field,
the briefing room will then be left
with an empty space.
And in our hearts it is perceived,
that this brother or sister will
never be replaced.

It is my solemn vow to all of my officers
to give my very best,
and to be the voice they want to hear
in their worst times of distress.

It is for my officers that
my loyalty is firmly planted,
And it is their voices
that I will never again,
take for granted.

To Officer Holly's family and friends I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words that can take your pain away, but know he was a fellow brother in blue and he will always be in our prayers. We never know why bad things happen to good people, but Anthony is now our guardian angel watching over us. I wish I had the chance to meet him, his smile looks contagious and by what everyone is saying how this fine young man he had a promising future ahead of him.

Even though I am not an active peace officer, I still feel the bond with my brothers in blue. I was sadden to hear Officer Holly survived a tour in Iraq only to die protecting his home ground. My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Holly's family, friends, and co-workers.

For a short time I only knew you by last name & call sign. There were several mornings & end of shifts that we greeted one another from "car" to "cad". I finally met you in person several weeks ago, as you were so thoughtful & kind to bring your dispatchers coffee one morning. As you walked up in to radio, you had such a big smile, just like your heart! Im glad I was working that day, to have had the chance to meet you! May GOD give your family & friends the strength to get through each second, each minute, and each hour of each day... and to remember all the good & happy memories you left behind. You will not be forgotten!

Tony:

I hoped the day would never come when I would lose an officer I trained. I take comfort in knowing you did everything right. As I said to you in the academy, "Sometimes we do everything right and it is just not enough. When it is our time, it is our time." The members of your academy class will embrace your family and take care of them for the rest of our lives. I love you like a son, Anthony. You will never be forgotten. We will all be there next year in D.C. to see your name forever honored on the Memorial. I know you are walking a beat in Heaven right now. I will see you there someday. I love you.

For all of you who are visiting this cite and didn't have the opportunity to know Tony, let me tell you that when you look at his picture, his smile wasn't there just for the camera. He always had a smile on his face and he made sure that when he left you, you had one on too.
I miss you brother!
