Officer Callemyn,

Your death came as a shock. We will all remember that early morning and hearing the call on the radio. None of us ever expected that it would be the last time we would hear your name.

CJ, you served the City of Durham tirelessly. You gave tremendously and asked for nothing in return. Now, it is time for you to rest. You have fulfilled your task and have been callen Home. We will celibrate your life and your legacy. Job well done, my brother! You will be missed. May God bless you and your family.

I just talked to you yesterday in the briefing room. It was very upsetting to hear the news. Life is so precious, and we should all never take a minute for granted. You will be missed!

Officer Callamyn was a great officer and a good friend. You would have a hard time finding an officer that worked as hard as he did. B-squad greatly misses him. May God be with his family.

Aloha Police Officer Charles J. Callemyn,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.

This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are family.” God Bless this fallen hero. You are embraced as our own family member. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one, not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in peace.

Police Officer Charles J. Callemyn,
I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers peace and love beyond all understanding. I honor you today as you shall NEVER be forgotten.

** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

Callemyn loved his God, his boys, wife, and his country. In Afghanistan, he survived numerous missions and drove through
some horrific conditions. His quiet steadfast determination
and loyalty are missed. I am grateful for his friendship, and
honored to have served with him. Just isn't right that
he drove like he did in the 'stan and wrecks in Durham.
Charles, drive up there like you did in the 'stan.

Such a sad day in North Carolina as we heard the bad news of a fallen hero. Officer Callemyn seemed like a execellent officer. He had died at such a young age, after surving a near death experence at the begging of the year. I hope he is remembered for his courage and faith while on his tour of duty with the Durham police dept. God bless, we will NOT forget!

Officer Callemyn,

I knew you personally and it saddens my heart that DPD has lost a great man and officer in you. To your wife and children you are in my prayers, I know that you miss him dearly because he had a smile that would light up a room when he came in. Please know that he touched many lives in a way he will never know and though he may be gone he will never be forgotten.
