Dexter I did not know you all that well but all had to do was look in the face of your children to know what kind of man you were.Along with Sharon their faces glowed with LOVE each time you met or talked of each other. THANK You for the MAN you were and all you did for others. GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN!!!!!!! ANITA

My Darling, You are my lover, my best friend, my heart, my life. There are no words to express my hurt. My heart and my arms ache for you. You are such a wonderful, kind and gentle man. You are my soul mate. I know you are watching over us and you will help us to get through this. I have a great comfort in knowing that we will be together again when our Lord and Saviour calls us home. I will raise our children and we will make you proud of us.
I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, donations and kind words.
Also, Please remember, cherish every minute you have with your loved ones. They are so precious. I had him for 27 wonderful years. We dated for 7 years and we would have been married 20 years this summer. He is so proud of the man our Son has become. He would just beam with pride when he spoke of Adam. And our 6 year old Daughter, Cassidy, is and always will be Daddy's little girl. He loved every minute he spent with his children. I spoke with Dexter on the phone 47 minutes before this occurred. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved to pick on me. We ended our conversation with a laugh. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. And the next time you see any kind of emergency personnel, thank them for the job they do. To all Police Officers and their families: Thank you for the job you do and God Bless You!! And to the Oxford Police Department and Chief Merrill, You are a part of our family and always will be. We Love you and may God watch over you and your families and give you comfort in knowing that Dexter loved each and every one of you.

As a long distant cousin my memories of Dexter come from intervals of 5-10 years, from days of young pre teens tromping across cow pastures to last summer's dinner. It is comforting to read the high regard he was held in through out his life by those who saw him on a daily basis. May those comforting thoughts sustain you all through this sad time.

Lt. Dexter Holcomb a.k.a. My Uncle Dexter,
Thank you for what you stood for and what you instilled in me to become. I hope I can be a small tiny foot step in the big foot steps you left. You were true to your job and family till the end....thank you! I will keep the memories we shared together locked inside my heart and promise to tell little Izak how wonderful you are and try my best to instill in him what you did in me. I miss very much but I know you are with me and will always be.

I LOVE YOU!

There is nothing that I could say that could even come close to your son's reflection. Just reading his words tells me all about you, and what a fine officer you were..and what an outstanding father you have been to your family. I can honestly say, " the world has lost a fine man".
Adam, I know that you will make a fine police officer, all you need to do is remember what type of officer your father was.. "make him proud"- as I am sure he was of both his children.
I will pray for you and your family, and I know God will hold you and your family dear to his heart.

I did not know him in life, but he was still my brother.. my brother in blue. + Rest in Peace Brother +

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face

"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years

The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind

I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last
(Author unknown)

+God bless all the men and women in blue.+

Dexter's quiet manner and calm demeanor were qualities that made him a good police officer. We were very proud of his chosen profession, but even more I was proud of the way he lived his life. I never remember Dexter saying anything bad about anyone! He had a way of making you feel good when he was around you. He brought humor and life to family gatherings. Dexter, we miss you and will always remember you!

Aloha Lieutenant Dexter Holcomb,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.

This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.

Lieutenant Dexter Holcomb, God Bless you. You are a hero. As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are Family.” No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace. I wish you, your loved ones, and your fellow officers, peace and love beyond all understanding. I honor you today. You will NEVER be forgotten.

** May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. **

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

I saw Dexter on January 28, 2007 and met his lovely wife and daughter. This was the first time I had seen Dexter since he was about 8 years old. He and Sharon and Cassidy had dropped by the hospital to visit his Aunt Lexie. Dexter is one of my mom's favorite people. The love and caring that Dexter showed towards his family was heart warming. It was obvious that this was a close knit loving family. You can tell alot about a man by the way people treat him. Rest in peace. God bless his family.

I know that at many times simple words are not enough to express the sympathy of the sorrow of a lost loved one. However at this time I would like to send all of you my condolences. I pray for all of you and trust that the Lord will give you the strength needed in the time of sorrow and in the days to come.

I remember Lt Holcomb, when I served as a patrolman with the Anniston Police Department, a neighboring city, from 1993 - 1999. Holcomb was a good officer, and individual. I was saddened to learn of his death the next day. I pray that God will comfort his family, friends, and members of the Oxford Al Police Department.

There is a special unexplainable bond that forms between dispatchers and officers. We are a part of a family that strives to serve and protect life and property. When a member of that family falls we all have a void left that can not be filled. Dexter you will be truly missed by your "family in blue", and my prayer today is that God bring a peace and comfort to the Oxford law enforcement family and that they will continue to serve and protect following the example that you left them. May God also bless and keep your wife and children and lift them up during this difficult time and shelter them in His arms to bring about a peace that surpasses all understanding! Until we meet again ..........

I would like to thank everyone that has left a reflection and all of those that will be leaveing one. I am Corey Adam Holcomb, I'm 18 years old and I have a younger sister that is 6 years old, Cassidy Brooke Holcomb. We are the children of Dexter and Sharon Holcomb. My father was a great man, he loved everyone as much as he could. And as he was described by his co-workers, he was a "work-a-holic". He loved his job so much, and he loved his fellows officers, along with his fellow man. I love my father very much and it makes me so appriceative of his job seeing the lives he touched and reading everything on here. I cant say enough how much every single person has honored his life and I belive that my Daddy deserved it all. As you have said we are all a family and i would like to say, I love and appriceate everyone who puts on a Badge, not to please people, but to allow them to peacefully co-eixst, because doing that allows us all to be happy. Thank you so much for everything, your prayers have allowed me to remain strong and support everyone. But unfourtunatly some people in this world dont care about Police Officers and their sacrifices, I have already expreienced this 1st hand in the past few days. I would like you all to know that I look up to everyone who wears a Badge! Thank you all so very much, and as my father knew, I am going to become a Police Officer and honor his name, honor what he stood for, and honor Jesus Christ! Thank you all so very much. We love you so very much Daddy, you well never be forgotten!

Adam Holcomb "Little Dexter"
Son
