Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Daniel Browne-Sanchez
Your courage and service is commendable. There are few people in the world who will ever demonstrate your valor.
May your family find understanding and peace in this tragedy and may justice be served to your assailant.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of my department,
Officer Matthew Lewek

Danny,
Death comes to us all. It’s merely a matter of how and when. Some trudge along in life waiting until that day comes (sheep), and some stay vigilant knowing that everyday could be their last (sheepdog). You never go throughout the day looking to give your live in the service of another, even though the reality of our calling is that we know that it is always a possibility. If we could know the time of our end, we all would live truly different lives. But for a true hero like yourself, who never knew that the when would be so soon and sudden and the how would be so heinous, you never let the thought “that today might be that day”, deter you when the time came to do your duty. Your life of selflessness would culminate in the same selfless way that you lived it. When in a flash, a puke in a mask, with a gun and a ballistic vest with an agenda known only to him, entered the back door of the lounge. Your selfless act, ensured the lives of many of your friends and acquaintances. For that, you died a Hero. To do it with out the protection of a vest and a side arm, for that you will be remembered as a true warrior. For those of us that knew you, we feel cheated that you were taken from us so soon. Our only solace is in knowing that your walking a beat in Heaven because your tour in hell is done. Every time I see your picture on the news or on the wall at work, I have a hard time believing that your gone. I keep thinking, so young, so much potential. I’m going to miss the good times we had because there weren’t any bad times. I will forever have the memories of Idaho. Your are my friend, my brother and my hero.
Aloha Brother, A Hui Hou.

Aloha Dan. Your memorial was a sight to see. Even though I had to work, I saw it on TV. So many people where there. I was able to meet your mother and see some of your pictures. Your mother loves you so much. I can see that you are best friends. Everyone in the department is so proud of knowing such a brave person like yourself. You will be in the history books and never forgotten. I remember during SWAT training how you always joked around . You had so much friends that you were on the phone all the time. But even though, you always had the answers in class. I was surprised. Well, I will talk to you later. Aloha.

Dan,
Many of us in the Exec section did not know you. For the ones who did such as myself, they have nothing but the highest regard for you. You gave the ultimate sacrifice defending the lives of others. For the sacrifice you have given, we love you, we miss you, and you will never be forgotten. Never stop looking down upon us while you are in the hands of God. He is now your protector.

I am saddened to hear that another brother has fallen. But how he went tells a lot about what type of person he was, while off duty and unarmed he still tried to protect the public from the evil in this world. I will pray for you and your family. I hope that your family knows that God holds a special place in heaven for men like you that place themselves between the good and evil in this world.
Look down on your family and wrap your wings of "blue" around them and help them through this terrible and dark time.
+ Rest now Brother for your watch has ended +
I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face
"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years
The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind
I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last
(Author unknown)
+God bless all the men and women in blue.+

Sup, Danny! I can still hear you saying to me, "...Nothin' much, how you doin'?" ...our everyday, morning greeting. I'm struggling to accept what happened to you--so suddenly and unexpectedly. I'm sure we all are. I wish that this was all a bad dream. I'm going to miss your easy-going, friendly personality. Work will never be the same without you. We are all going to miss you. You will never be forgotten. Your bravery and courageousness has made all of us so proud to be deputy sheriffs. Take it easy, dude, I'll see you again...some day...and then you can tell me, "sup". Laters, dude!

Dan,
Its truly been a pleasure to have known you and to have the honor of calling you a friend. I remember talking story and joking around at that famous smoking table.
I only wish I had taken your offer to go out and party. I will forever miss your laughter.
I can still remember seeing you as a recruit and how you have grown into a respected deputy by all. Your actions and ultimate sacrifice you made will always be remembered.
Rest in peace my brother and god bless your family.

We only had the chance to meet Daniel once. But only wish now that we had made more of an effort to get to know him better. In the time we saw Daniel it was clear that he was very dedicated to his work. He also looked out for other people. We know he is a hero and he will rest in piece. Our love goes out to his mother Robina and his friends he has left behind.

Dan,
I remember meeting you when I was assigned to District Court Patrol and the first thing I noticed is how you treated me, not as a "rookie" but as someone whose been in the department for a while. That's the person that I knew you as, one that treats everyone with respect. You may have been younger than me but you had a wealth of knowledge and you taught me a lot of things. You were always there when I needed someone and I thank you for that, but that's how you were, always taking care of others before yourself as shown by your heroic actions that day. I still can't belive your gone. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to work with you but even more so I'm honored to have been able to call you my friend. I'll miss you Dan and I'll never forget you.

Dan
I woke to the news of the shooting early Saturday morning and could not believe it. It pains me that my current assignment is keeping me away from being able say my goodbyes and honor you appropriately. I know that you remembered my lessons on officer survival and know that you fought hard to stay with us. Your actions were truly that of a hero and you will never be forgotten. God bless your family and friends and may his grace bring peace to their mourning. Today you stand at the right hand of God as a peace maker and you will be blessed for an eternity. I'll miss you Dan.

"My Brother"
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
He was a cop.
Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.
Rest In Peace Brother! We have the watch...

I remember when you came out of recruit school, and came to District Court. I remember saying to myself, this kid is 22 years old, just like me when I started with the Sheriffs. As I got to know you, I saw how outgoing and how personable you were. I will miss your smile, your laughter and your personality. You were the light the made District Court bright. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life.
