MATTHEW 6:9-13 THE LORDS PRAYER TO ALL..AMEN

February 16, 2007

To my dear friend and bother of law enforcement, Sean.
I remember the day you started at the sheriff office with " Hi I'm Sean Wissink the new guy" and I also remember when you left after four years. " Hey donk I'm being hired by the Des moines police dept." In our passing the next 6 yrs either at the jail or courthouse you always had a smile, a laugh or two and a quick hey how are ya doing. On that morning of Feb. 11th 2007 you had a ticket to be on a plane to New Mexico. During that early morning Jesus reach out his hands, hugged you and delievered you to heavens gates were St. Peter away your arrivial. At the gates Jesus disciples and angels breathed over a speaker over head reading St. Matthews Ch 5:4-9 "Blessed are they that mourn: for they will be comforted, Blessed be the meek: for they shall inherit the earth, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled, Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy, Blessed are the the pure of heart: for they shall see god, Blessed are the peace makers: for they shall be called the childen of god." May the perpetual light shine upon you, til we met again....donk

I'm trying to make sense of this brother, but I cant seem to grasp it. You have become a mentor to me these last few years and I knew that if you said it than it was true. I have so much respect for your honesty, hardwork, love of family, and intelligence that only a few weeks ago I told my wife that if I could model my skills as an officer after anyone, it would be you. You never thought you were better than anyone and had a presence that could make anyone listen. You told me about Hunter's first bird hunting season this past fall and how after walking a quarter mile he realized he forgot the shotgun shells. You told him "its okay, we all forget things sometimes" just to make him feel better and walked back. It's that part about you, Sean, that I will miss the most. As all of your friends and family weep and wonder where to turn, I know you would say,"dont worry about it. you'll be alright"
You extended your hand every time we met and I'll never forget that. As I pray to the Lord to comfort your family, I also thank him for allowing our paths to cross. You are truly my brother. Love Ya Bro!

Sean,

You and your team assisted us countless times,
With executing search warrants for heinous crimes,
You were the first through the door, while the rest of us came in after,
You made sure the scene was safe, preventing disaster,
You were a fearless leader time-and-time again,
Courageous, brave, . . . . . . . and a true friend,

You brightened up a room each time you walked in,
With your boisterous laugh and ear-to-ear grin,

We know you are now in a better place,
But it does not change the heartache and sadness we all face,
We will move on, but never forget,
The brother we have lost, but were fortunate to have met!
Rest In Peace, Sean

Sean,

I remember the first time I met you. I had been working as a deputy in the jail for Polk county for about three months, and had just been transferred to the satellite facility (trailers), where you worked the midnight shift. As I was getting ready to leave for the day and was sitting in an isolated office, I heard this loud bellowing laugh, coming from somewhere in the building. It was full of energy and more importantly, zest for life. I remember meeting you for the first time that evening and thinking that you were someone that made people feel good deep down in their soul when they came into contact with you.

Over the years I have heard that laugh hundreds of times it seems. I had been working for the Des Moines Police Department for a couple of years when you made the transition from Polk County, and we were both assigned together in what was known as the "block" squad.

"Good cop" is what comes to mind working that area with you. Again, I observed your zest for life, and your tenacity and drive.

I served with you for a year on the entry team. You were one of the most tactically sound officers I had met. I watched you grow as an officer, and observed the relationships you made with so many in the line of duty.

And now you are gone. I hurt. Many people I know and love on the department hurt. And I begin to think life is not fair as I wipe the tears from my eyes knowing that you are gone.

You often read when someone passes away how good of a person they were. I always wondered if those persons were truly good, or if others made them out to be that way.

Sean, I do know you had a heart that was good and golden. Everytime I interacted with you over the years you always made me, and everyone else around you, feel energized and positive. There are very few people in my life that have had this ability. You were one of them.

I pray for your family Sean. I see your closest friends from your unit there with them, taking care of them, comforting them. That won't stop.

God took you in Sunday morning for a reason, to be with him. I will never know why until God calls me home also. We will meet again...
