Reflections for Prison Chauffeur Lewis D. Richards

Chauffeur Richards, it has been 88 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your law enforcement service.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 76th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace

Chauffeur Richards, thank you for all your efforts to keep criminals away from society while they serve their sentences. I know it's a difficult job and women and men like you are heroes for doing it.
I hope the filth who survived the escape attempt never felt freedom again, for the rest of the wretched lives.
God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

My grandmother was Chauffeur Richard's widow, Ruth. Although she remarried eventually, to his cousin Lewis Hanson and had two more children, she talked about "Dick" (Chauffeur Lewis) regularly until her own death in 2001, at age 94. She also spoke often of their son, "Junior", who died in a sledding accident in Powderhouse Park in Somerville, when he was 12.

Chauffer Richards,
It has taken over 71 years, but you are finally being honored. I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Massachusetts. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than that of a Corrections Officer.
