He was my grandfather's brother. He died seven years before I was born, so I never knew him. His name is on the memorial stone at the law enforcement center in Sparta, and it was very nice to see the bridge named after him and Trooper Hogan. Thanks to everyone for the touching reflections posted here.

Chief Taylor, you and Patrolman Hogan are still in the thoughts of many of us. The Little River Bridge on US21 south of Sparta was dedicated to you and Patrolman Hogan on June 27, 2012 in a beautiful ceremony at the VFW that was attended by the Sparta Police Chief, Colonel of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and many other local and state dignitaries. You and Patrolman Hogan will never be forgotten. Thank you, sir.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the sixty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

Chief Taylor. To paraphrase the old hymn, you once were lost, but now you’re found, we were blind but now we see. You are no longer forgotten. Rest in peace.
