To the Old Fort PD and other Western North Carolina law enforcement family: I will be praying for all of you during this time. Reading Josh's reflections let me know he was loved and respected. We lost one of our deputies, Blake Gammil, almost two years ago. It is still hard to believe and to deal with. I pray that all of you realize just how much our family of the BADGE mean to us. Losing an officer anywhere hurts all of us. I am from Waynesville, NC originally and know Old Fort fairly well. I am proud to be part of law enforcement. Take care of one another there up there.

To the Family of Josh, Chief Lytle, Amanda & All OFPD, McDowell Co. Sheriff's Office, NCSHP, Medical Services and First Responders of McDowell Co., The Town of Old Fort, and any others who had the priviledge to work with and know Josh please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and verse 4: 'There is a time to weep, and there is a time to laugh; there is a time to mourn, and there is a time to dance'.

While this is the time to weep and mourn hopefully peace will come again soon, as will the ability to laugh and dance.

If there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to ask.

Josh, not only were you a fellow officer but a great friend also. You were always humble, generous and gave your all everyday that you came to work. I know you loved your job, your wife and family and your fellow officers. You may be gone but I will never forget you and you will always be in my heart. May the Lord bless all your family.

Rest at ease brother, we have the watch now.
Godspeed

Police Officer's Prayer

LORD, I ask for courage
Courage to face and
conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me where others will not go...
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others,
and strength of spirit to lead others...
I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
to keep it safe...
And please, LORD, through it all,
be at my side...

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Williams and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Williams has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Officer Williams, I want to say that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Williams is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
