To my Fellow Officer, Brother, and Friend;
This is so very hard to do! you were hired 2 months after I was. We hit it off immediately. I was "624"(original), you were "625". We worked hard and sometimes, played harder! You would come into my Office everyday you worked, to talk to me, or just to look at my magazines. You wanted to be a member of the Hope Mills Police Departments "SWAT" Team. You (just like me) couldn't wait, and you purchased a Sniper Rifle, just in case you ever needed to use it! that was dedication to the citizens, to protect them, even though we did not have the TEAM yet. You always looked out after your people, no matter what the circumstances revealed. You were an excellent supervisor to "Strike Team Alpha", even though it took so long to get you promoted to Sargeant.
On 01/11/2007, I was present during the search. I was there when you went down. I (as well as SGT. Servie) tried to save you, but we could not. I just pray that you know that we did all that we could for you. I was the one that called your Father "Big Harold" and told him (not everthing though!). Please forgive me for not doing more! I, like all the other Hope Mills Officers, would gladly trade places with you, if I could.
To Shelly, Samantha, Mason, Big Harold, Myla :
I feel as though I let you down, even though I believe I did all that I could. I am so sorry! Please forgive me! If you feel that you would feel better and need to blame someone, then put that blame on me! After all, I was one of his Supervisor's. I love each of you and will do whatever you ask of me, all you have to do is call. Day or Night.
Heath, watch over us now, as we try to carry on, in your name. As you lived your life, Angel, watch over all of us.
You are a friend, fellow officer, and brother to me, as well as your family.
Peace be with you Brother, I miss you already. But I know we will meet again soon, and Patrol Heaven together!

Hey Heath,

I only worked with you for a short time, but in that time I came to know a truly honest, loving, caring and dedicated person. You were a great cop and you were loved by all that worked with you. We will all miss you. My thoughts and prayers go to your wife, your two children and your Mom and Dad, whom I know you loved dearly. The guys will take care of them, as you know. My thoughts and prayers are also with all the members of the police department you left behind. It is your job to watch over them now and keep them safe from harm. And NO, I still do not like NASCAR, but I did finally get the thin blue line license plate for my truck. I went and seen your car today, you would be proud. I placed some flowers and a card there for you among the many others that have been left. You are in a better place now and we will all miss you. You were one of the great cops out there and you are now one of the great cops up there. Watch out for the ones you left behind. Rest in peace Heath and know you are loved and will never be forgotten.
Very Fondly,
"Jersey"

Heath was one of the best friends we could have asked for. He was always so funny and would make any occasion a blast! Stacy was friends with Heath from 7th grade where they played football together until graduating from DB in 1990. After that, I had the honor of meeting him and making great friends with Shelly. Stacy and Heath attended BLET together at Sampson Tech in 1997 and me and Shelly had Jacob and Mason three months apart. Heath, we love you and miss you terrible. It seems like a bad dream. We know that you are in a good place and you are looking down on all of us from above smiling. You always had a smile. We will never forget all of the great times we had with you and Shelly and the kids. You can rest assured that we will take care of them and watch over them for you. Rest in Peace!

I had just got home when Terry called me and told me what happened. I sat there for about a half hour. I almost hung up on Terry and cursed him for a sick joke. Then Tripp called. I got up, lit a candle and said a prayer.
I remember the day I left the department for my new one and grad school. You looked at me and said, "good luck caudell...ya know if you do it right, somebodies gonna be callin you chief in 4 years...I'll lay money on it".
You were always quick with a smile, and a joke. Quick with advice, and encouragement. Out of all the people I've worked with in the last almost 7 years, you were one of the best. You genuinely wanted to do the right thing. You wouldn't let yourself be jaded or become cynical. Heath you will always be a better man than I. And I hope that one day I will be a fraction of the cop you are.

Heath,
First you were my FTO, then you were my friend, finally you were my brother. Everything I am today is because of you. We've shared secrets, played practical jokes on each other (and others), cried together, and especially laughed alot together. We had alot of fun. You were the foundation that held our department together. Everyone that had the honor to know you and work with you knows that they are a better person because of you. Words cannot express the hurt and sadness we are all going through. But rest assured that you will always be with me until my number is called and then we can laugh together again. I LOVE YOU!

What can I say? You were an awesome person, Sgt. Heath Hardin!!! A wonderful officer. I will definitely miss you, always. You will always have a very special place in my heart. I will always think of the conversation we had just before you went back out on the road with a smile and warm feeling in my heart. All I can say is only you Heath, only you! I know how much you loved your family and your job. I have so much respect for you and hope that I have and can make you proud when I am doing my job. I will never sit on the desk and take it for granted and I will never forget that day, not as long as I live. You were a pleasure to work with. You always had a smile on and could make us all laugh. Never a dull moment with you around. You will be missed by many, you already are. You make me proud to work in law enforcement. Thank you for everything Heath! I will never forget you. Rest in Peace. NOW IN HEAVEN
The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

MAY GOD BLESS AND WATCH OVER YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
