Christmas party's tonight. Thought about you and your date last year. You looked so good, so happy. Hard to believe it's been almost a year. Wish you were here still, every second of every day.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I haven't spent a lot of time this year reading the memorials of the fallen officers, mainly because it saddens me that so many great men and women have fallen. It's a terrible thing that so many great lives were cut so short. As a fallen officer survivour, my heart goes out to all those that knew and loved Deputy Mitchell. Know that you are not alone in this journey that you walk and that Rahamy will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg.
Deputy Mitchell, thank you for helping to make this world a safer place. If you run into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a hug for all of us down here. It's been just over four years and we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne

I've written several poems and letters for Rahamy and if anybody would like to read them plesse contact me. I love Rahamy and always will. He was a wonderful man and was taken way to soon.
This is for you Rahamy,
"MY HERO"
ONCE YOU TOLD ME
YOU WERE A BIG FAT ZERO
YET IN SO MANY OF OUR HEARTS
YOU ARE OUR HERO
YOU NEVER BRAGGED
OF ALL YOUR GOOD DEEDS
AND ALL THE WHILE
YOU WERE HELPING WITH OTHERS NEEDS
YOU HAD SOME PAIN
BUT KEPT IT INSIDE
BUT FROM US THAT LOVE YOU
IT WAS HARD TO HIDE
I WAS PROUD OF YOU
EVERY SINGLE DAY
EVEN WHEN I ONLY SMILED
AND HAD NOTHING TO SAY
YOU WERE A WONDERFUL MAN
AND MY BEST FRIEND
I HOPE YOU'RE CATCHING
ALL THIS LOVE I'LL CONTINUE TO SEND
"I LOVE YOU"

Hey Rahamy,
It's has been almost 4 months since you left us. I talked to Greg the other day and we talked about you for a little bit. When I got off the phone with him, I started the remember when's in my head. Here is one of them for you...
Remember when I was 10-80 with that female suspect on Silo Road? I wonder to this very day how you and Greg made it to the trailer park to back me up just minutes after she decided to terminate the pursuit. I believe ya'll were south of Ector somewhere. It was a while back, but if I remember correctly, you almost beat the city units!
No matter who it was or where the call was at, you always made sure that every officer working the beat with you was going home. The irony that you left this earth doing just that, trying to back up another officer.
Not a day goes by that I don't remember you in life, not death. Rest easy brother. Save some Moutain Dew for me up there.

Tomorrow...
When tomorrow starts without me
And I'm not there to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today
while thinking of the many things
we didn't get to say
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
And each time that you think of me
I know you'll miss me too
But when tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
And said my place was ready
In heaven far above
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love
But when I walked through heaven's gates
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From His great golden throne
He said "this is eternity and all I've promised you"
Today for life on earth is past but here it starts anew
I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day's the same way there's no longing
for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me
Don't think we're far apart
For everytime you think of me
I'm right here in your heart
You are missed so much!

In remembrance of Deputy Sheriff Mitchell whose EOW ended all too quickly. May his family and friends be comforted with the memories that help to dry the tears and the sad feelings. We know he is in a category that is unique because he was in the service area to others and for their safety he arose to each call of duty. Think on all the good that he did and the fact that we have a loving God and good overcomes the bad. I know the feelings of having a fatal accident to happen to a loved one. I lost my sister in one and my son, Deputy Michael Brandon Lassiter, age 30, in the line of Duty April 8, 2004. Please know that God never leaves you. To his son, I especially want to encourage you that in time things will be better. A relationship with Jesus is the best source of strength and certainty in your making decisions with your future. I feel that you know that, too.

We stand for a fallen officer
And hold our heads low
We wonder why this has happened again
It has happened to many times in the past
We can't believe our ears when we hear that
such a wonderful person has been taken away
And has left behind his loved ones,
And his little children too
But God decided that it was time for one of his Children to
Come home and be with him once again
God knows he has put many of us through some hard times
But he sees it as a lesson we all have to learn
We all have to learn to live with hurts and regrets
The fallen Officer knew he was loved by so many.
But his journey ended before it began.
He had lived his life not knowing what was ahead of him,
And know he has come to know that he lives above us watching down
And he will now become a Guardian Angel for many of us here on Earth
But we all know that this Fallen Officer had passed away doing what he wanted to do.
He will be loved by many
And he awaits up with God for his Loved ones to come join him someday
You are greatly missed!!!
