Happy belated Birthday! Miss you like crazy, especially days like today when the surf is small and there's nobody bobbing around out there to tell stories with. It's been another incredible year and I wish you were here to share it with us. You continue to inspire me to make my own happiness in life, you were always good at seeing the positive in things and in those around you. Thanks for all the good times.

Just thinking of Danny, miss him a lot still. It is good to see his face on this site. Man he looks young! I think I have aged 10 years in the past 5....what an anazing person he was. I think he would be so proud of Katelyn and Wyatt. Anyway, he will always be a bright spot in my life.

Hey Dan,
I know its been a long time. I still think of you and your family. I still have the videos when we used to go off roading out in the sticks. I still have a flag I folded up in a case for you in my computer room. Still wish you were here. Thats about it brother. I moved to Wisconsin. No more beach days for me. I know your doing much better than all of us down here. Just want to say Hi.

Hi Danny... Just thinking about you today, for some reason you and Tony are heavy on my heart today... I just saw that 14 officers have been killed already this year, it's only January, that's just not supposed to happen. I remember when you were a cadet and we were talking about you being an officer one day... you had me cracking up with your funny stories about the kind of officer you would be... you were so much more too and I was always so proud of you... I miss you Danny, we all miss you, I can't wait to see you again one day, I bet you've got lots of new stories to tell us now! R.I.P. xoxo

It's hard to believe it has been four years already. Dan was such an awesome co-worker. I hated to see him leave Palomar but I knew as a young man he had to go to bigger and better things. I think of him often. He was such an awesome young man and he never met a stranger. As many people have said I will always remember his stories, his big smile and his laugh. May God Bless you and your family. You will always be in my heart. When we lost Dan we all lost a wonderful human being.

Danny Boy,

Just made my way back to civilization, I was snowed in just outside of Mammoth yesterday. I was thinking about all of our random adventures and how much we have all learned from you. Your life has challenged all of us! So many of us have found our priorities thanks to you. We miss you like crazy, and wish we could still jump in the truck for Tortas and Coke in a bottle in Tecate. Thanks for impacting my life. Miss you friend...

today is the funeral of another fallen hero here in San Diego. I work in Mission Valley and watched as all the squad cars went west on Friars Road, lights blazing, sirens blaring. and i just cried and cried remembering your service and Tony's. We miss you Dan. We miss you a lot and always will. The Lord took you too soon. But I am so thankful to know you are in the Lord's presence and I will see you again some day to give you a big hug. I hope and pray that Officer Wilson was also saved and that you were able to welcome him to Heaven along with all of the other brave men and women who have died for our country in uniform, military and police. I know you can't really read this but maybe somehow you feel our thoughts and love even though you are so far away from our earthly cares and concerns. I know you are in a far better place and we will all be together again someday. Keep the barbecue going and cook us some burgers! Love you!

Dan,

As I prepare for my annual trip to Sacramento for the Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony, my thoughts naturally are on those names I know I’ll see on the monument:

Sgt. Vernon Thomas Vanderpool - Palos Verdes Estates Police Department

Capt. Michael Wayne Tracy - Palos Verdes Estates Police Department

Officer Tony W. Zeppetella - Oceanside Police Department

Officer Dan Bessant - Oceanside Police Department

Dan, I miss the “re-enactments” you were famous for. You were a dedicated, hard working officer, and it was a privilege to have served with you.

May you “Rest in Peace”,

Sergeant Kenneth Gow
Oceanside Police Department
