Reflections for Police Officer Daniel S. Bessant
There are no words I can use to relieve the suffering of the friends, family and fellow OPD officers. I wish things like this were a rare occurance. Never forget the life this officer led. Keep him alive in your memory for all times. I salute Officer Bessant and I have added his family and friends to our church's prayer list.

Dear Officer Dan Bessant,
I am applying to work as a Police Officer in your Department, and have gotten to know a few people from your Police Family. When I heard on the news of what had happened my heart sunk, I felt the sadness of having lost a dear friend even though I never met you. I am sure that you are in good hands now, and that God is showing you just what He means by Unconditional Love. My prayers went to you last night, for a safe passage...
Thank you for putting your life on the line so I can sleep safe at night, so I can have people such as yourself to call upon when I need help.
Tonight I will pray for your wife and baby boy. It must be so hard for them. Know that they will have the support and love of your entire Department, City and Country! Your life did not go by unnoticed, you made a huge difference here and because of you many lives were changed forever.
God bless you and your family Officer Dan Bessant. You are a HERO.
Rest in Divine Peace brother...

After the tragic loss of a fellow officer, a good friend told me, as we struggled for reasons why we had just lost Ofc. Dan Picagli, What would we learn from losing someone who never touched our lives???? There is a lesson in Ofc. Bessant's passing...trust me...you just have to open your heart to it...He is in a better place. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, brothers and sisters of the Oceanside Police Department, and most of all, his wife and baby..Im so sorry for your loss!

Mrs Bessant, family and members of the Oceanside Police Dept. - You are all in my prayers during extremely difficult time as words cannot express the sincere sympathy for this totally unnecessary act of violence.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
With sun shine warm against your face,
and rain fall softly uon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Rest in Peace Officer Bessant as your work here on earth is done - God Bless and THANK YOU.

Dan - Rest in peace brother. You and Tony are in a much better place. I pray that you and he watch over us as we continue to do what we have chosen to do in our law enforcement careers. I'm sorry we didn't get to talk much other than a passing "Hello" at VDF, but know that you will be missed by all of those that you have come in contact with.
To my brothers/sisters at OPD - Thanks for the working relationship that we share. Lets not let this happen again. Keep a watch over each other and be strong. Dan and Tony will forever be "HEROS!"
Be Safe and God Bless.

Dan,
It has been two days and I still can't find the words to write. You will be missed and never forgotten. I will always remeber the poker nights (you and Richie ganging up on me), ball games, and the way you made me laugh with a joke or one of your many funny faces. I am proud to say you are my friend. I saw both sides of you, the funny and the serious. I know how proud you were to become an officer and even more proud to become a Daddy. I know that the most important thing to you in your life was your son and your wife Katelyn. You are a hero and looked up to by many. No one can or will fill your shoes. I will miss you brother..........God Bless you.
